Screenshot Captor keeps saving PCX files

Downloaded Screenshot Captor for Windows 8 (64) (yes, I know Windows 8 blows, but you try buying a new laptop without it) after being a longtime user.

Everything works except SC's proclivity for saving image files as .PCX format. I've repeatedly changed the setting to be JPG format, but it doesn't take.

Any ideas?

Note: I had to change the uploaded file to jpg

I think this is a bug, it was mentioned previously, but I was under the impression it had been fixed.

Could you possibly try changing the default to be PNG and see if it does the same thing (After exiting and restarting SSC etc) - Just basically try get it to do the same, with other defaults set.

Will certainly help to narrow down the problem if it IS a bug (It has been mentioned on DC before) - If it isn't...nothing lost but time xD

I need some clarification on what you say is happening -- are you saying if you change that to JPG that it doesn't obey this when creating new screenshots?

In other words, can you walk me through exactly what you are doing, what you are seeing, and what you expected to happen in contrast to what actually happened.


ps. unless you are in an alternate universe, no one should be using anything but PNG for screenshots.

You summed up my problem. I keep changing the image format in settings to JPG. I apply it. Then the next time I use SC, it saves the screenshot as PCX.

So you go to options, you change that drop down list to JPG.
You exit SC.
You restart SC.
You go to options -- what does it show in the default file save format box? JPG or PCX?
Is it saving other options changes you make?

Is it that the options are showing JPG but its saving new screenshots as PCX? or it is that the options are reverting to PCX? Or is it something else?

Are you saying it works fine until you restart SC? Or are you saying it NEVER saves in jpg?

Just walk me through exactly what you are doing and seeing please.

Interesting tip. I just checked Stickies, and it does seem to be using png. However I do vaguely recall jpg being a format I use in a few other apps but I forget where. Not too many gifs these days.

It reads JPG in the image format settings (because I told it to, and applied it), but is saving pcx files. Restarting SC doesn't help.

I would love to get to the bottom of this issue, and I apologize if I'm sounding harsh -- but i seriously need someone to help me understand or see this in action because i can't for the life of me reproduce it.

Furthermore, I still do not know the process which you are performing and getting pcx files... there are a dozen ways and places that SC can "save" a file -- whether it's when performing a save as, when hitting the SAVE button, automatically on a new capture, etc.

This may simply be a case where you are misunderstanding how that option is used -- or it may be a bug.  But unless someone can walk me through the steps that lead to the behavior that you think is in error and tell me exactly what actions you take and what results you get that are unexpected, there's little i can do.

It doesnt help me to say the the program is "saving PCX files" -- I need you to tell me what exact set of steps/actions you are taking that create a pcx file.

Just walk me through the steps please.

• Open SSC
• Edit Setting for default file type to PNG or JPG
• Apply Settings
• Take Screenshot
• Modify Screenshot
• Click Save-As (Ctrl-E)
• SSC Now chooses PCX file
• Select PNG/JPG Instead
• Save
• Exit SSC (Reboot PC or any other reason you might do this)
• Start SSC
• Take Screenshot
• Save-As (Ctrl-E)
• SSC Now tries to save as PCX again

'save image as' is for converting anyway, i thought
