First caption inserted (incorrectly) automatically.
Second caption applied through Objects/add caption (correctly positioned)

That's not a bug.
Go to the automatic captions tab in options and on the right you will see the setting that says where to put the caption :

Oops!  :-[ :-[ :-[ :-[

Sorry  :(

Now, I'd like to tell it where to put the caption, but it wouldn't be altogether politeā€¦

I think it's an old bug, but print margins are not saved between sessions.

"Automatic captions" for printouts and "Add caption to image" don't show automatic text (%filename%; %fullfilename%; %datetime%).
Normal text (manually typed) is inserted.

e.g. %filename% - XXX gives XXX in the caption

I'll see if i can't fix the print margins and i'll reply to the captions thing in a bit.

But in the meantime, if you download v3.26 in the last hour or so between when I uploaded and now, please re-download -- I accidentally uploaded a debug build which will run slower than it should.

let me ask though -- it does select the right things when you let go of the mouse right?

mouser,
To answer your question, Yes, it does select the right things. However, when it occurs I generally find myself abandoning the selection and restarting the select because the selection box does not appear to be drawing correctly. Sometimes after restarting the selection or restarting the selection from a different anchor point, the box gets drawn correctly. It would be better from a user's perspective for this box always be drawn as a box. Also, shouldn't the selection box be a dashed thin line, not a solid thin line to be consistent with other selection boxes?

New version is up (3.27).  You can now make quick captures from webcams -- see top of View menu.  That's a feature i've been meaning to add for a while -- just seems to me SC should be able to capture from any source (screen, scanner, webcam, etc.).

You're right. This is a nice addition.

Suggestion to re-word it to "Web Cam" or similar related. Didn't notice it at 1st since it said to switch to Video Capture. I 1st thought that was related to your EastScreenCast ie video capture.
Just wondering, why it's under the view tab and not the capture tab?

You're right -- I'll move it to Capture tab.

Right now it's a bit of a second-class thing because when you "capture" in this way from the webcam, it doesnt get treated like a normal capture -- e.g. the automating post-capture things like emailing, uploading, adding captions, etc., won't get applied to a webcam capture.  And it doesn't appear on the quick capture bar or trigger the post-capture dialog.

I will probably integrate it more like a standard capture mode in a future version.

The ability to capture from a webcam is another nice addition to SSC

I tried to "test" it (without having a webcam attached) and when I clicked the Capture Image button, I got this message:

"There is no image to save.
Why not take a screenshot or create a blank new file before you try saving anything?"

I like the ability to rapid fire screen shooting with this new addition.
Making flip books is pretty easy with it. Thanks.

dluby, you can get ScreenCamera at this site-
http://www.trickiezo...a-software-that.html
to test it with

Thanks for all of the encouragement and testing folks -- it makes all the difference in the world.

New version uploaded -- the Webcam capture feature now has 2 buttons -- one for rapidfire capture (just like how you've seen it in the last version), and another that makes it behave like any other capture (that is, it closed after you trigger it and it will show post-capture dialog and add caption or whatever, just as if it was a screenshot).  the webcam capture is also now in the menus and quickcapture bar.

Other improvements: Some additional toolbar buttons (copy to clipboard, choose selection size, resize to preset); more importantly, you can now configure which buttons you dont want to have shown on the toolbar -- this will make it much easier for me to add more buttons without worrying about overloading people.

Now i really want to stop adding features and make this new version official in the next day or so.

Somehow the source, format and properties menu buttons do not do any thing with the latest beta.

Sorry about that, please redownload.
Ps. from the Webcam capture form you can hit 'c' and 'p' to do the two different kinds of captures.

c and p are doing the same thing, rapid fire.
A couple of times at first, I think it was p that brought up the pop-up dialog.

Sorry, you are right 'c' and 'p' do the same thing -- they do what the "capture+" button does -- that is, they take a very quick snapshot and save it and stay open -- and bypass any post-capture options.

The 'S' key does a Snapshot capture, which closes the webcam dialog, and does whatever the normal post-capture options are (show post-capture dialog, print, upload, caption, etc.).
