Don’t Understimate Language Issues
« on: July 15, 2012, 11:51 AM »
"Don’t Understimate Language Issues": that's the title of a blog post by an Italian entrepreneur (and great coder) living in USA.
I'm sharing the link here (hoping it's not too much OT), because I think his candid writing can bring some awareness of this kind of problems, just in case someone is actually underestimating them.

Having lived in non-English speaking countries and speaking more than just English for quite some time, I've basically concluded that the English-speaking world is much less tolerant of language issues.

There's even an entire album named after this with a title-track song (NSFW):

It just illustrates a difference in attitudes in different places.

It all reminds me of this language barrier related bit of humor, that was given to me many years ago, by an Italian immigrant friend of mine. (hand typed, in all caps, on a piece of grease stained paper)

http://readmyemail.b...went-to-detroit.html

The first time I read it, I could imagine my friend telling the story, hearing his voice (Italian accent and all) in my head.  ;D

My friend has since passed away, but every time I read it, I can still hear his voice. I think that's why I kept that silly piece of paper all these years.  :)

I don't know who's the original author of this great piece of humor, but I very well know it and makes me laugh all the time :) The video version allows a better understanding:

The Italian Man Who Went To Malta

ROTFL!

PS: The speaker in the video sure is not Italian, I can hear it from the final "arrivederci" ;)

Have you tried turning on captions and translating that video to English?  :D
