Been using OpalCalc on my desktop since I got home... it is just so much nicer than Calc.exe or other clones.

All the cool stuff like typing this:

"1468 days in years"

It's just so much nicer to do math in words rather than fart around so much.

Cheers. Been busy beavering away on 1.43!

Oh I use Opera btw - not as fast as it used to be though (last nippy version was Opera 5 AFAIR). Table copy and pasting worked fine with it though.

Hmmm... Maybe something changed, or I could simply have confused it with another browser... Anyways - 1 version of 1 of the browsers out there (at least) monkeys things up. :D

And I'm looking forward to 1.43! You have a really cool piece of software there!

You have about 150 colours there, but Wikipedia <a href="http://en.wikipedia..../wiki/List_of_colors">lists about 900</a> (not sure if there's a better source). Now if I can find a HTML table to CSV converter...

It looks like it saves almost sanely into text, so you geniuses should be able to make a 50 line script that cleans it up and then just open it as a text file imported to Excel (or your choice of other useful spreadsheet), then just save out as CSV. Maybe?

Aha, I see you've found one of the 'Easter eggs' in Opalcalc ;)

@kunkel321: For now, I might just make a hotkey recall the last session's document. Is that good enough for now?

so you geniuses should be able to make a 50 line script
What you mean like this? ;)

opalCSV.jpg

Yes it is a real program, but beta with possibly a few minor bugs at the moment, so please don't spread. It's a bit more than 50 lines though, as it's fairly sophisticated for this type of thing ;) No documentation, but it's so very easy to use (output updates in realtime, including changing any options, so a bit like opalcalc). The nice thing is that you can just insert the raw HTML file, and it scans for table data automatically.

http://www.skytopia....f/OpalCSVconvert.exe

Yes, that's it, there's no install, not even a zip, just a standalone executable (does require .NET 4.0 though). I await the day when all software's free of the dreaded installer =)

OpalCalc 1.43 is now out:
http://www.skytopia....m/software/opalcalc/

For users in this thread, the following features/bugs have been fixed (amongst quite a few others detailed in the history from the URL):

Shift + F1 now opens the last session, even if you didn't save it (providing OpalCalc was previously closed). In addition, an option has been added to automatically restore the last session on startup.

When the print window or "All Q+A" window was opened before, the colour scheme of the main window turned to "Snow". This is now fixed.

Awesome.  Works like a charm.  Thanks for adding this!   ;D

Thanks too for the suggestion! I may consider adding the multiple doc history at a later stage.

Alternatively, to make it easier for me, I could add an option to restore just the last working session (sheet). Would this offer most of what you're looking for, or should I allow restoring of previous sheets (or sums) too?

This is a great idea/start to a history feature.

I bought it some time ago and like it very much.

Calculating like we are thinking.
And the use of variables is just awesome.

I have several saved files for calculations that I need to do some x tame over and over, with different values.
Even although it are only 4 calculations witch uses results from the previous line, it is awesome.

Keep up the good work :-)

I just thought to myself, "Gee... I haven't opened 'calc.exe' in ages!"

Still loving OpalCalc! It's such a better way to do a calculator on a real computer. :)

I have a FARR alias for "calc" pointed at OpalCalc, so I can't forget even when I'm on autopilot :)

Thanks all! I'll be working hard on 1.48 which is due out soon (and fix the currency update issue that's currently in 1.46).

Also been working on a picture to sound program which has been taking up a lot of my free time, but it'll be a lot of fun ('interesting' alternative to that 'photosounder' program if any of you have heard of that).

Just found a ... well, maybe it's by design but it feels wrong.

The remainder function.

If I want to work out the number of weeks and days before a given date, I can do something like:

@21/09/2012 - today in weeks

but that gives me a fractional component most of the time.

If I do @21/09/2012 - today in days

with the intention of dividing the result by 7 and getting the remainder, I get an error with

rem ans / 7

I also get an error with

d=ans
rem d / 7

The only way I get the answer I want is if I type in the answer I got instead of referring to it.

I expect there's a good reason... ;)

Hi all,

wow, a wonderful helper for daily work. Purchased it immediate after tested it for 10 minutes.

The author is very kind and responsive (also by eMail and with odd wishes like mine :) ). And his license behaviour is very free.

GREAT APP! Worth every penny. Please guys think about a donation. I want that this piece of software will go on with development for a long time.

Greetings

v1.50 is online now with a ton of new features/fixes. I've included a prize giveaway for any bugs people find (let's hope I don't go bankrupt ;) )

@oblivion: the "rem" keyword is a 'special corner case' feature which only works with simple divisions (e.g.: "7/3 rem = 2 rem 1"). I added it due to someone really wanting it a while ago. Combining it with dates/times would be quite tricky indeed unfortunately.

Woo Hoo !! First try !!
http://i.imgur.com/FPMa3.png

Actually it's probably just my fragile system...  I will try to reproduce.

Edit:  I am able to reproduce...  Still, my system is buggy.  So that could actually be the problem.
Win 7 that is setup to run from a network, but I'm not pluged in to the network, so if anything ever tries to access My Documents, the whole thing goes haywire...

Anyway, to reproduce:  I click on the Pi button, then go to "Own Stored Units."  The only thing there is "hogh," which I think might be a built in sample, since I don't remember putting it there.  I choose hogh, and get
hogh    |    1 hogh
http://i.imgur.com/vbp3X.png

and the hint-toolbar at the top tells me it's a hogshead.

I click <Backspace><Backspace><Backspace><Backspace> to get rid of "hogh" from the left.   Then, as soon as I press <Enter> the error happens.

Is anyone else seeing this?

Edit2:  Tried to record steps http://screencast.com/t/lnvGaoMsS

Edit 3:  Am on my (more stable) Vista machine now.  Still getting the bug, but it appears to occur with ANY of the functions, operators, etc.  So Opal Calc has 17,456 different functions and each one has a bug.  So 17,456 times $50....    Hmmm I'm gonna need Opal Calc for this!
Nah, just messing with you.
Actually it appears to be ONE bug and it doesn't matter what gets typed and deleted.  If ever the entry field is empty and you press <Enter>, you get the effect.  Or at least that's what I'm seeing.   Of could if this does pan out to be a certifiable bug, I have a friend who might like a free copy of Opal Calc  ;)

Edit 4:  Okay last edit...  That hogshead thing wasn't on my other computer which means it's not built in....   Which means I put it there....  WHAT THE HECK IS A HOGSHEAD ANYWAY????

I don't know, but:

I better quickly release a new version so that it returns a negative amount ;)

Seriously, thanks for the bug report. It's new to 1.50 due to one of the features I added. It was pretty careless of me, but my stupidity is your gain - I'm very happy to award $15 for it (more would've been awarded for a long-standing bug btw)! Send me your paypal email address to receive cashings! :)

Needless to say, v1.51 is now out.

Well it would be if the first answer was correct. For actual money, either gbp, or the £ symbol should be used. Having said that, usually the message "<warning: mixed types>" would be appended to the answer, so I'd say you've just found another bug. Have a free copy of OpalCalc on top of the $15!

Does 'correcting' the title of this thread count as a bug fix?  :P Probably better to take the version number out of the thread title (just IMO)

Going to try OpalCalc for first time :)

Haha nice try ;)

I thought I'd keep it so that people can see how far it's come, but yeah I should probably change it tbh.
