Was looking for equation editors today and came across Math-O-Mir (http://gorupec.awardspace.com/mathomir.html).  Pretty impressive little program, I will be using it a lot as a mathematical note-taker.

Even if you're not into equations, the input interface is pretty intriguing.  It takes a bit to get used to but it's pretty powerful, making good use of both mouse and keyboard.

Nice find!

I found that the videos linked to on the page helped to give a quick feel for the app.

Fantastic find, seems to work really well.

A similar program I've been using is Equation Author it's free and still out there for download but sadly the original author website is gone.

Just wanted to bump this, as Math-o-Mir version 1.7 is now out... definitely worth a try.

Unfortunately, it crashes pretty fast on my Win XP machine. (About 7 clicks and mouse drags).

Hi TaoPhoenix, can you provide more details (can you repeat the steps that crashed the Math-o-mir). I would like to debug this.

Oho! So you are the author! Welcome!

Unfortunately, it is about as simple as clicking on the white area makes a little box thingie, and then a couple more clicks dragging that box thingie then produces and error that says "sorry, this program must close."

Thanks for your report, Tao. I am not able to reproduce this on my PC, but will keep an eye on the problem whenever I am testing the software on different configurations. Eventually I will solve it :)

Looks interesting. Can it create output which can be easily implemented in .doc / .rtf files?

Yes.  Drag to select the desired equation(s) and click the edit menu.  These export options are available:

Copy Equation Image
Save Equation Image
Copy MathML code
Copy Latex Code

These are very handy.

Hallo.

I have some more info on the bug.

It looks like it has to do with the routine(s) that draw the equation entry box. So for example if you click say 3 pixels away from the first box, nothing happens, it's probably an error trap on purpose. But farther away if you click in the white area it deletes the first entry box (assume you did nothing with it), and creates a new one. On my machine those two actions are not instantaneous. Now the bug seems to be related to clicking just far enough away from the first entry box that the program wants to spawn a new instance, but right about that point if you're also holding the left button and moving the mouse, it seems to catch a bad double instance and that's where the fatal crash shows up.

Does that help? It's pretty repeatable here, and even after a reboot.

Tao, I think I got it...

First of all, sorry for the late response. I only saw your latest answer several minutes ago - I was not expecting that you will bother providing the second report.

You can try to download the new executable from http://www.datafileh...wnload-9c7f36f9.html (note that there is only Mathomir.exe inside the ZIP file, no setup). Let me know if the bug is gone now. I will also copy your bug report to my blog, if you agree (mathomir.wordpress.com).

All others that still read this thread and are using MoM should also download this version because the corrected bug was particularly nasty.

Your bug report was perfect. Thank you very much (remember me to buy you a drink when you see me passing by).
