Contest - Make a new Banner for Website

its fun seeing cody in the balloons but since he will be on the right hand side of every banner it might be overkill.

I think this has reached an important point.
Wouldn't it be possible to have the globe with cody on the right, the sliver in the middle, and the rest of the banner on the left?
I think that would be just perfect.

that would probably be better done with the world (or whatever) becoming part of the gif/png that cody is made out of on the current live website - this would allow it to overlay the banner underneath.

might be nice to see a version of topbanner_website_world_09.png  with a smaller cody at the far right, as if he was a pet
instead of the overlord.. if it's not too much trouble.

Right, that's a good point!
I mentioned this, because i think the globe looks better on the right side of the screen, and because cody shouldn't be in the 2 places (i think).

i meant him standing on it.. as if he was like a dog being walked by the last guy on the far right.. if that makes sense.

i will experiment with splitting off the banner between the earth and text and putting the sliver in between.

i've taken out the stroke and this appears to give a much better effect overall (in my opinion).

if it's decided that cody isn't going to stand on the world then i'll remove the stroke from the non cody version too.

the only downside for cody being in the world is that he's now so small it's going to be a bit tricky when we come to have a themed cody.

everything could could be scaled up a bit, of course. the world wider and therefore flatter and then all the 'beings' could be enlarged - i'll perhaps try later.

Well after several months.. this contest has finally ended with a glorious winning banner - the one you see at the top of the site now.

It should come as no surprise that Nudone, who created our mascot Cody, came up with the winning design.  We had some lovely entries, and i think the interaction of testing and iterating through versions helped inspire the winning design as well.  Thank you to everyone who submitted something.

let me add something:
i am in love with the new banner.

i can't quite say why, but i think it somehow captures the playful spirit of the site..
and perhaps it captures a bit of the fact that this site is a bit convoluted and it's features are not easily explained in one word.. but somehow when you look at it you kind of know it's going to be fun to discover the details.  at least that's what i see.

and i love the 2d-3d combo look, that kind of feels like an old fashioned Diorama.

maybe we could use that on the anniversary of donationcoder.com's birth - with Cody on it somewhere, of course.


i'd just like to say i feel privileged (as always) to be involved with DC and to be the final winner. thanks to everyone that made suggestions and helped develop the look of the final banner - i certainly enjoy this iterative method of design as it appears to give a rewarding result.

and, one final word.

i can't keep it a secret any longer: mr.globe never went away - he just chose to hide himself.

Congratulations, nudone! You made a great design, the banners really look very good.

For all those that didn't won: Thank you very much, it's always fantastic to see that there are so many artist in this site. You made some very interesting designs, that i'm sure contributed to the final outcome of the contest!
