The mouse is dead: Introducing Gmail Motion [01-04-11]
« on: April 01, 2011, 10:49 AM »
The mouse and keyboard were invented before the Internet even existed. Since then, countless technological advancements have allowed for much more efficient human computer interaction. Why then do we continue to use outdated technology? Introducing Gmail Motion -- now you can control Gmail with your body. "No longer will people be required bend to the will of technology. Instead, technology will now bend to our will."

Wikipedia has a great set of April Fool's links up as their daily update, but Simon Phipps makes it permanent:

Did you know…
  • … that the Australian government requires high-risk sex workers to wear full-face respirators?

  • … that a typical Labia minor is chocolate brown, up to 7 mm long, and equipped with pincers?

openSUSE announces the new Canterbury Distribution:
Canterbury is a merge of the efforts of the community distributions formerly known as Debian, Gentoo, Grml, openSUSE, and Arch Linux. The target is to produce a really unified effort and be able to stand up in a combined effort against proprietary operating systems, to show off that the Free Software community is actually able to work together for a common goal instead of creating more diversity.

Try Googling Helvetica.png to see it.

Google has a second joke today. Try Googling  (see attachment in previous post) to see it.

Don't see anything funny there. Mostly about the documentary film. What am I missing?

I noticed the font was different for the entire page. Also for "Comic Sans"

@Deozaan:
Ah, that explains it. I'm using a short CSS script that converts everything to Droid Sans.

"The mouse is dead", welcome to the keyboard world, welcome to the 60s where everything is faster. Fuck mouses.  8)

Anyone ever notice how nobody ever uses a mouse in movies and TV? Even though most people are so computer illiterate that they mostly only use mice for everything, it seems like most PC interaction in media is people typing a million miles per hour with little to no mouse clicks.

Kind of like how people playing video games in movies/TV shows are just mashing buttons as fast as they can and exaggerating their movements and yelling and shouting, etc. . .

My wife watches NCIS, and whenever Abby or those characters type on the computer, they zip through 490-character passwords or commands without ever making a mistake. I scream at my wife: "HOW CAN YOU WATCH SUCH UNREALISTIC CRAP!!" She just rolls her eyes.
