Under windows xp pro + sp3
without adobe.

Is it possible ?

There is an alternative with any other pdf viewer or shell extension ?

PDF-XChange Viewer has a shell extension to display thumbnails of PDF files in Windows Explorer. you can try that.

as tomos pointed out, the PDF-XChange Viewer is free "for both Private and Commercial use" as is the shell extension.

Unfortunately true. But when reading multiple PDFs, I like STDU Viewer for its "Show thumbnails" which allows me to see all the selected files on one page.
