AllMyNotes or Notezilla - Looking for a Comparison
« on: March 09, 2011, 09:58 AM »

It's already been announced both programs are on special today.

AllMyNotes at https://www.donation...ex.php?topic=26018.0

Notezilla at https://www.donation...ex.php?topic=25975.0

Reviewing other posts on DonationCoder both are respected and quality programs.  And comparing features on both company web sites it looks like both have comparable features.  With the exception of sticky notes.

Does anyone have experience with both that would be willing to offer their thoughts or a short comparison?  I am not sure if the "sticky" note feature will used that much in my case.  And unfortunately I will not have time to run through both trial versions today to compare. I'm trying to determine if (except for the "sticky") it is an apples to apples, apples to oranges, or oranges to tangerines.  While today's discounts could enter into the decision wondering if it should.

Thanks

The really are quite different from each other, so my advice would be to buy both! NoteZilla ($18) is for sticky notes only, while AllMyNotes ($5) is kind of a 'PIM'.

+1

Used NoteZilla quite a bit in the past - better than most at what it does, also goes a bit farther in functionality than most.  If you need Post-It® functionality, it's worth the money.

AllMyNotes - free version - has been a staple on my system(s) for some time.  Lets me keep track of email addresses, software installs, other esoterica that have no dedicated apps for tracking.  Also serves as ad hoc code snippets storage until I can transfer 'em to a true snippet filer.  It's another tool worth having ... now, if we can just get eighteen (18) more folk to buy it  :-\ :P.

Thanks to you both.  It is apples and oranges. What I was looking for.
@barney... all we need is two more as of this writing. I bought one.
@Curt... Think I will hold off on NoteZilla at least until I work with AllMyNotes a while.  It may be I decide to go the sticky route also. And I'm sure there will be another discount offered down the road.

You might consider stickies for that.  It's good, superior to most in the venue.  Or, if you're using Win7, the built in Sticky Notes is reasonable.  I've never checked to see if there's something similar for Linux, although I suspect there is.  Guess I should - could come in handy at times.

+1 for Stickies. I used it until I won a license for Notezilla. Notezilla is more powerful and configureable, but Stickes is VERY capable. Having said that, DO look at Vista and 7 built in Sticky Notes. I haven't used it but know people that do and it, too, seems highly functional.

+1 for the Win7 product ... haven't installed stickies on two (2) of the Win7 boxes ... the native product, while somewhat limited, does everything I need ... everything else I do with Cinta Notes, MemPad, or Info Select

@bob99: nobody seems to have mentioned that Zhorn Software's stickies is freeware.

Kinda took it as read  :-[.

Edit.

Took it as read (rhymes with color red) references an assumption that everyone present has read the same document, with slightly lesser assumption that everyone is on the same page  :P.

+1 again for stickies -- it's just wonderfully useful.

AllMyNotes is decent enough, but -- for what it's worth -- I've put it on the back burner now as I think RightNote is the best of its type.

I get a bit frustrated with the limitations of the tree format, particularly at note creation time -- first work out where to store this, make someplace for it, then create the note -- and although there's a place for it when reviewing quantities of stuff of a piece, for straight knowledge capture and retention I think you have to go a long way to beat Cintanotes.
-- bests, Tim

...this space unintentionally left blank.

AllMyNotes has a particularly pretty GUI but, with the caveat that I haven't tried all the competitors (which are too numerous to thoroughly investigate), I think I'd agree.

That's why I used to/still do like the earlier Evernote desktop application.  Cintanotes is great, but doesn't have the image capture that Evernote does, assuming you actually need that.

I wasn't aware of sooo many 'note'-managers.
RightNote
KeyNote NF
TreeDBNotes
AllMyNotes
CintaNotes
Notezilla 8
of course OneNote

I have quickly been looking at a few.
I donot need very complex tools, OneNote and RightNote, it takes too long to get acquainted with them, too long for ME, that is.

They all have their pros and cons.

What I am looking for is something similar to the GUI of Outlook.
Meaning : left tree with folders/subfolders
Right top: the notes with caption, modified date, size, etc.
Right bottom: a preview
and all that with a minimum of clicks.

AllMyNotes looks nice, but ..
-I donot see a way to add a date-time stamp to a note
-neither can I browse based on date-time
-I am not sure if an url can automatically be added to a note

It is terribly fast in searching, regularly updated and has a forum.

Cintanote is purely text based (webpages, imagefiles, I think it is not possible)

TreeDBNotes, looks nice, but similar to RightNote has a lot of features and includes
a Passwords Organizer and a Contacts Organizer that I won't be using.

My 2cts ..

I think you can try Notezilla. All of the above requirements are met by Notezilla. Except that it doesn't have a forum.

Greetings from developer of AllMyNotes :-) Allow me to answer your questions...

AllMyNotes looks nice, but ..
-I donot see a way to add a date-time stamp to a note

We have two following keyboard shortcuts for date-time stamping:
   Ctrl+D - Date stamp
   Ctrl+M - Time stamp
In addition, there is toolbar buttons to do that.

Also, every note has creation and modification date/time for your convenience.

-neither can I browse based on date-time

You can sort folder content by creation and modification (note: this feature is available in paid version).

-I am not sure if an url can automatically be added to a note

Yes, AllMyNotes Organizer can automatically recognize typed URLs, e-mails, and even phones. Also, you can assign URL, e-mails, phones, and hyperlinks to other notes within AllMyNotes to any text using right-click menu (note: this feature is available in paid version).

@metaroot - thanks for the comments.

Sorry for the confusion, it is my mistake ... :-[

But with adding date-time stamp, I did nót mean adding this into the body of the note, but rather as
an 'attribute' to the note, so there is a way to sort notes and/or 'browse' thru them based on date-time.

I have been using a portable trial version for a short while, but stopped using it because of the above.
Maybe the portable version is less 'complete' than the installer?

You lateron wrote
"

"

Cud you possibly add a screenshot?
Or refer me to a website where I can find an example.
My google image search remained in vain, I am afraid.

By the way: I did write 2 emails to support (18/05) but have not yet rcvd a reaction.

Thank you.

p.s. will there be a feature to have AllMyNotes add to the context menu of various applications
incl. browsers IE/FF/Chrome.
it would go something like: select text,rightclick-> send to AllMyNotes
