print webpages that don't fit the page
« on: February 25, 2011, 02:10 PM »
I am wanting a hard copy of some pages on a web site.  I use Firefox and genarally it will shrink the pages to fit when I print them.  However, on this site, that doesn't work.  I have changed the margin settings but it still doesn't get all of it.  Tried to paste it into Word... Nope not there either.

It seems someone has mentioned a site or some software that will overcome these limitations.

any ideas?

this is what I am wanting to print.  its a wiki and there is not "print" icon or button.

I also tried IE 8 and have the same results.

I just tried this site, www.printfriendly.com and it stripped away all the junk.

In IE8, highlight the center part you want, right click the highlighted text and select Print Preview, from the middle drop down select print "As selected on screen".

You can use one of these screenshot add-ons for Firefox,
that will make it a png or jpg or any graphic if that will work for you.

https://addons.mozil...addon/pixlr-grabber/

https://addons.mozil...efox/addon/fireshot/

Both of them can grab the whole page with printing options.
Or grab it and save to use your own printing setup.

overcome these limitations.

I'm using Aardvark to remove parts of a webpage I don't need for a printout or PDF. Perhaps this will help.

I just stumbled on to this add on for Firefox: Readability.  I just installed it but looks very interesting and it strips away all the junk on the sides.

From their website

Readability :: Add-ons for Firefox

Readability is a new Firefox add-on that makes reading web pages simpler and more enjoyable. The system strips the superfluous information and shows the main content in a single column of easy-to-read text. It is also a precious tool for printing the web pages in less.
