There's a newish link at the top of the forum pages labeled (unreplied topics).

This page lists recent forum posts that have no replies yet.

Can I suggest that in an effort to make sure requests for help and other important posts don't get overlooked, that we start a regular thing where we ask regular members to browse those posts every friday and try to reply to any posts that seem like they could use a reply?

I might even modify that page so it highlights posts by new members -- since they are the ones more likely to need time-sensitive replies.

I suggest we call it "URT-Fri" because it sounds cool.

Ok, I just did my part (sorry, too easy to let this one go by)

[edit]
And now my contribution to this thread:
I really like the idea, and will try to help with this as much as I can (even though I'll probably ignore the "fridays" part and do it when I need to procrastinate from work :P)

I'll commit to helping... though it will probably be anytime that I have downtime and no topics to reply to :)

Edit: On that note, is there a way to make the moved topic post not show up in this view?  And maybe very old topics also? And how far do we want to go back with this starting out?

Also, a few requests to make it simpler:
1 - please remove the "moved" posts from there, they take a large percentage of the list
2 - maybe we could have a "show only topics started by new members" thing (where "new" would have some sensible definition), since most of the threads in that page are really started by long-time members. [edit] wraith beat me to this one :P [/edit]

I was thinking both of these... I was going to do the new member by clicking on the name and seeing how many posts and prioritizing that way, but your suggestion makes so much more sense!

Count me in - probably a nice way to spend a few minutes of my coffee break.

I would be happy to try and help out also.  I like Jim's idea of either "show only topics started by new members" thing or highlighting the new members under a certain number of posts... say 10?

Done.  Makes it much easier to read now.

It now defaults to showing only fairly recent posts (in last 60 days) by people who have made very few posts (less than 10); you can adjust these values.

Ok, the first URT-Fri is in effect!!

It's the day when we try to pitch in and reply to any recent and unanswered topics that may have slipped through the cracks in the past week.

  • Visit the unreplied topic page: here.

(ps. if there aren't enough entries on that page you can view unreplied topics that are older or are by older members)

I didn't even see this thread until now. Was it ever featured in a newsletter?

Also... only 3 unreplied topics on the entire forum? Wow!

Oh... No. It's just broken. The normal link shows only 3 topics. Two in January and one in February of this year.

The link for "older" topics shows hundreds of them, some as recent as 2 days ago.

Oh... It's not broken. It's just unintuitive.

I am confuzzled.

:( :tellme:  :-\ :-[ :tellme:

I can understand that, I'd (also?) like a few comboboxes allowing to select the criteria of the filter, on that page.

There's another link on there to *really* allow you to see all of them.  But the filter was for a specific purpose, that I think it serves well, especially with so many un-replied topics.  I think the link to show older topics should actually say all topics, though.

In my opinion, the link for "Unreplied Topics" ought to show all unreplied topics by default and display a link to show only unreplied topics by new members.
