“Programmers are in a race with the Universe to create bigger and better idiot-proof programs, while the Universe is trying to create bigger and better idiots.  So far the Universe is winning.”
(Rich Cook)

I just had to share this.

But be warned, if you're prone to peeing your pants laughing, get out the adult diapers now. :P

“There are two major products that come out of Berkeley: LSD and UNIX.  We don’t believe this to be a coincidence.”
(Jeremy S. Anderson)

I LOVE this one:

#58
“PHP is a minor evil perpetrated and created by incompetent amateurs, whereas Perl is a great and insidious evil perpetrated by skilled but perverted professionals.”
(Jon Ribbens)

If you know Perl, it's SOOOO true.

#69
“Java is, in many ways, C++–.”
(Michael Feldman)

#70 (NSFW)
“Saying that Java is nice because it works on all OSes is like saying that anal sex is nice because it works on all genders.”
(Alanna)

#73 (NSFW - Linus Torvalds)
“Software is like sex: It’s better when it’s free.”
(Linus Torvalds)

#86 (NSFW)
“Programming is like sex: one mistake and you’re providing support for a lifetime.”
(Michael Sinz)

This one is excellent:

#95
“It would appear that we have reached the limits of what it is possible to achieve with computer technology, although one should be careful with such statements, as they tend to sound pretty silly in 5 years.”
(John Von Neumann, circa 1949)

That's an excellent idea~! I'll have a little search now to see if I can find any PD archives with computer pics.

5.“If the automobile had followed the same development cycle as the computer, a Rolls-Royce would today cost $100, get a million miles per gallon, and explode once a year, killing everyone inside.”
(Robert X. Cringely)

This is definitely my favorite.

Funny, but didn't LSD originate in Basel, Switzerland? - was probably consumed a lot more in Berkeley, though :) (I remember reading a short article about a microprocessor engineer who confessed he had used the substance, in small quantities, while working on CPUs...)

By Alfred Hoffman while researching heart medication. He accidentally dosed himself one day in the lab, and decided that he wasn't feeling well, so he rode his bicycle home. And that's where we get the Queen song, "I want to ride my bicycle, I want to ride my bike." :D

I understand he missed his house, wound up staying at a motel on Pluto overnight, and somehow made it back home the following morning with no idea how he got there.  :P

That's the nice thing about LSD. It facilitates interplanetary travel without ever having to leave the comforts of your own home~! :D
