IE 9 and Flash 64bit betas
« on: September 16, 2010, 12:33 PM »
Two cool betas out this week, Internet Explorer 9 and Flash Player 10.1 64bit.

Haven't tried them myself too much, only just installed a short bit ago. But everything I have tried works fine.

They're worth giving a test drive! P.S. sorry for the non-standard theme in the screenshot

A 64 bit Adobe Flash for Windows? Wow, I had given up waiting...

Now I just have to wait for 64-bit silverlight, lol.

IE9 is faster and seems more stable than IE8, I like it so far. Haven't really noticed the effects of GPU acceleration in normal browsing though.

Address bar next to tabs seems to be truly WTF for me  :o

following up on what fenix said..

great to see IE following the google chrome lead of making a non-standard minimalistic user interface that makes everything harder to use but looks prettier in screenshots.

I must say, I love the minimalist approach. After-all, you can get the menu back by pressing 'alt' when you need it.

I'm a minimalist - I do believe that less-is-more...To a point. This strikes me as beyond that point. The address bar needs to be long enough to show the complete address at least. And where the hell is the favorites menu? Cripes, don't make me hunt for stuff.

Granted I haven't actually tried it yet, but I absolutely hate the Chrome "user experience"...So I'll be exploring this with more than a bit of trepidation.

I really have no need for a 64 bit flash other than form my IE where the 32 bit is the default I use ... given that this is a beta and will need to be manually removed later when the final comes out, I will wait.
Windows 7 SP1 (TM) Home Premium 64-bit .. Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU P8400 @ 2.26 GHz / 2.27 GHz .. 4GB RAM .. NVIDIA GeForce 9800M GTS .. Gateway P-7805u FX

It did break an app I use. MusicBee does not display properly when I.E. 9 is used.
MusicBee is a 32 bit app while I installed the 64 bit I.E. beta. I didn't know it would/could affect 32 bit apps.
Did a restore to remove it as it is not uninstallable.

P.S. MusicBee is a very cool free music app.

I've been running the IE9 beta since it came out - so far, no issues. I expect that the address bar issue will be rectified before this goes gold. Overall, I like it - like MrCrispy, IE9 seems quicker, more stable, and less CPU intensive than IE8.
