Icons not on background after start up PC
« on: May 23, 2010, 09:42 PM »
It may already been discussed: After I start up my laptio, the icons are not on the same place as the background. After unlocking the position, it works.

Yours is a very rare case and not one experienced by the majority of users. I will look into this but in the mean time there are two possible workarounds:

(1) Unlock the Dock's Position, or,
(2) Have the Dock hidden on start up.

I have the same problem, where some of the icons are not on the ring, but elsewhere on the desktop when I first start up (using Windows 7; don't have dock position locked). Using the hotkey that I configured to make the dock appear (^ space) makes things align properly.

I happen again, the right moment to take a pic. The icons are still on the right place, it is the background that tried to escape.

I use locked position (which I want to keep using).

Pity that this important issue has not been followed up. CD is certainly not a stable product.

I wouldn't say that it is unstable... how many programs are there out there that are "bug free", every program has its faults.  ;)

but anyway i had the same issue when I had the old alpha release, so which version are you running?

if its a older version, I'd recommend upgrading... if you have a newer version, reinstalling might work so try that...

hope this helps

I am currently using 1.5.6.30

Reinstalling means I am back to all default settings and it takes me half an hour to restore to present situation.

hmmm..... there's the config.ini file that saves your settings (80% sure) maybe install another dock, not over your current but in a new directiory. copy the config file to that settings folder and run that dock. then see if you encounter the same problem?  :-[

Welcome back vdongen

We have looked into this issue, and as Markham stated before this is a very rare issue indeed.
Usually happening when Circle Dock starts.
Even I get it occasionally. To correct this, simply hide and un-hide Circle Dock.
Everything should come together as needed.

This is not to say that the issue has been ignored, rather there is no known solution at this time, and from what we have seen there may not be one, as it may be in the way that windows is handling the graphics build. Could be wrong  :tellme:
This has been a small end recurring problem since the original programmer.
there is no evidence of program instability nor does it appear that this will cause a system slowdown or crash.
Therefore this is simply a graphics bug

By the way; what OS are you utilizing????
I almost want to bet money that you are on Windows Vista, or a direct update from Vista to 7 without a clean install of Windows & OS  :tellme:

Thanks for the explanation. Well, better not bet for money, I did a **clean** win 7 install. Cheers.

Usually happening when Circle Dock starts.

If it's going to happen, it's more likely to happen at a time that the PC is very busy such as at startup. There is a lot of processing that occurs when Circle Dock loads and there could well be timing issues. I may need to supply a separate "loader" which will load and execute Circle Dock when disk activity is at a minimum - ie after processing all the 'autorun' options.

I'm on a brand new machine with Windows 7, and as I said earlier, I also have this problem. It's easily taken care of / aligned by using my shortcut for toggling hide/appear (^space). I just do this automatically now after start up is finished.
