"today" is (was) Sunday 1'st of November 2009. The giveaway is the new Typing Assistant version 5. The feature is a hot-key (Alt+RightArrow) activated pop-up showing you the latest entry to your clipboard. Why may you be wanting this feature? Because it is by far the easiest way I have come across, to copy two or more words and put them together to become a new filename, when saving a picture or something. Example: You see a nice picture showing a maltesian beach. You have, say, 3 informations about the pic but they are not written in a way that you merely can mark and copy in one go. Now copy the 3 scattered informations, say, "Nice View", "Malta Beach", and "Photo by Smartman", and save the picture. When Windows asks for the a file-name, merely hit Alt+RightArrow, and Enter one by one! Most clipboards will clear such a text field, when you paste a new text into it, but TA will merely add  and does not replace what was already there.

In many ways Typing Assistant is a pain in the aß$, because of unwanted pop-ups, so you will have to do some settings, to live with it. Edited: But you can de/activate the program with a simple hotkey, F11, which can be changed. And it is FREE today Sunday. Otherwise this new fine version 5.0 is $35

Yet another blatant copycat stealing from PhraseExpress.

Here is the evidence:
http://www.youtube.c.../watch?v=F7EuL_nNN1Y

We probably better start just feeling honored as quite a few hobbyist programmers cannot resist to imitate and steal from us.  :-\

But you can have the Original free-of-charge rather than buying from a copycat.

A major new PhraseExpress version will be released very soon. Here is a sneak video preview.

I haven't watched the youtube video but am sure what you are talking about is the help walk-through system. I noticed it long time back.

How hard is it to at least change the stylesheet and the html page design?

You find me surprised as well. I couldnt believe what I saw. This idiot copied our style sheet byte-wise.

Watched the video? Any doubt about the validity of our claim?

I see nothing wrong with it.

He is merely pointing out that another s/w author has copied what he originally created. Copying an idea and implementing in a different (better) way is a different thing..blatantly copying while not giving credit is not acceptable.

Just installed Typing Assistant, but almost immediately got disappointed: it doesn't expand according to the autotext case--I mean "ta" becomes "Typing Assistant", but TA, Ta, or tA do nothing. Did I miss something or am I just spoiled with its competitors? Anyway, such a behavior seems to me absolutely logical and inevitable.

To Curt: I'm using for this kind of action Ditto, which allows to assign shortcuts to last clipboard items, so I just type Win-3, Win-2, Win-1 and have the same effect. But I agree, this is a bit different.

Just installed Typing Assistant, but almost immediately got disappointed:
- you need to first do the settings. The default setting is "auto-learn", and you have *not* yet learned it anything.

So far I have Typing Assistant placed in Start because I want to test it. The first impressing is good, better than with version 4, but it really is important to play around with those settings. Otherwise the sheer amount of pop-ups will drive anyone crazy.

With this said, I am wondering IF I will want to keep TA in Start? I do have better programs for most of the same features, but this one feature I've headlined is very fast to use.

About Ditto and others. Typing Assistant is not meant to replace the clipboard, only to the extend the use of it. ____ These are my clipboards:

It doesn't work in word or onenote 2010 (preview).
Not useful for me. Comfort typing does work in word, not in onenote.
Since office 2010 is not even in beta, I won't hold it against it :)

I didn't see this thread before, so am late to the party, but I thought much the same.  I e-mailed Sumit Soft in Jan. this year (2011), so I had a similar thought to yours but much later.  Here's Sumit Soft's reply:

Another suggestion, though I'm not very sure about it. At present
short forms are case-sensitive, so "atm" and "ATM" could expand to
completely different things. Usually I want "atm" to mean "at the
moment." However, if I start a sentence with that phrase, I need "At
the moment," with initial letter capitalized to "sentence case." Of
course, I can define "Atm" to do that. But, does it make sense to have
some kind of "smart capitalization" so I only have to define the
phrase once, and Typing Assistant will automatically enter the right
initial letter?
I suggest you define two Auto-Expand entries as below:
1) shorthand="atm", full text ="at the moment"
2) shorthand="atm", full text ="At the moment"

Then you just need remembering one shorthand, and choose the full text you need to expand.

Of course, you could regard case-sensitivity as a feature rather than a bug.  You could define "iirc" as "if I remember correctly," but if you were in a forum where practically everyone understood that anyway, you could just type "IIRC" which Typing Assistant wouldn't translate.

@Curt:  you're right about the settings.  I've grown to largely ignore the popups when I don't want them.  I thought there was an option to change where the popup appears, so you could park it out of the way under the bottom of the window or something, but can't see such an option.  I don't always run TA with Windows, but only when I want it.

@urlwolf: Just tried it in Word 2010 and it seems to work OK.
