Features removed from Win7 - do we miss them?

I found an interesting list of things removed from Windows 7 (vs. Vista - the list of things removed in Vista vs. XP is a lot longer ). I thought it might be useful to see a concrete list and talk about what things we might miss (or are glad are gone!). So here's the list, to get started (and I'm sure it will grow with time):

I will tell you the biggest thing I miss is the more full functionality of the status bar in Explorer. Why they removed features like showing the size of folder contents I just don't know! Especially with the supposedly more advanced indexing Win7 now has.

I don't really have many comments. Very rarely use Vista and the features missing from it in W7 don't seem a big issue to me. But the ones that are missing from those I have in XP are very irritating indeed.

I can do without all those features myself. I think I would be more disappointed if I used Windows Explorer.

I have always been a sucker for add-ons. This list certainly gives me hope for the future for applications that will extend the usability of Windows 7...

Here & now I am sadly surprised that my Windows Media Player not will be allowed to minimize to taskbar integration. This probably means I will "need" to also get myself a widescreen monitor?

The Classic Start Menu can most likely be replaced by third party applications.

Only thing I've missed in Win7 compared to XP is floating appbands - I used to use them for a bunch of different shortcuts... and when I moved to Win7, mouser's LaunchBarCommander didn't work properly (dunno if he's bugfixed it yet ). Other than that, pretty much everything else has been a step in the right direction for me.

Nope

Even though I rarely use the start menu because of FARR, the Vista style start menu is a pretty big improvement over the classic. Of course MS could've kept the classic menu for the people who refuse to change, but whatever.

I'm not at my Win 7 PC now but can you not just recover most of the Classic Start menu behaviour in a quicklaunch-esque toolbar?

Either way I don't miss it. In Vista initially I used to switch to the classic menu alright but once or twice of forgetting to do it showed me just how good the new menu was.

Hrm, no tooltip when hovering over the date area (essential for checking up the date), and no connection animation (always useful to see if something is hoarding all the bandwidth for itself).

How so? The only good thing it has going for it is that maybe people will be more accustomed to use the new Search box, in an effort to avoid the POS that is the new Start menu. Or am I missing something?

I'm not clear what an appband is. Is that what is created when you drag a folder to the edge of the screen and it creates a taskbar-like menu? I used to use one on the left side of the screen but now I just put my whole start menu on the left and pin all the programs I use to it. Works great!

Yeah, I think appband is the name for it, but that's what I meant. Pinning stuff to the taskbar doesn't quite do it for me, I want it on a separate bar (and can you pin folders on the win7 taskbar? haven't tried, tbh )
