Hello all:
I've found myself needing to know my most recently installed programs on my laptop. Sorting the Program Files folder by date does not do the trick. Is there a way to do this? Maybe a program that lists this info?

As usual, your help is always very much appreciated!

Revo Uninstaller will show you that information. Run it, and then click the top of the Installation Date column to sort oldest to newest, or vice versa. Piece of cake!

If you look, there's also a portable version available. Great for if you don't want to make it a permanent part of your machine. (Although I can't imagine why you wouldn't.) It's a great utility.

I use Nirsoft's MyUninstaller because it provides plenty of installation info, including the most recently installed programs.

You beat me to it.

I use MyUnintaller also. NirSoft has some nice little utils. I just started using RegScanner.

On topic, also SIW has an item in the tree view for installed apps. Likewise, you can click the installation date column to sort. Another nice one like this is LookInMyPC. When I got Vista before SP1 you had to really study up and tweak services to quiet the HD. LookInMyPC has a nice export to html table. Once you get your services tweaked the way you like, this provides a good document for reference.

I think I've tried a couple of other apps, but have found that Revo makes me smile. The advanced uninstall is perfect, creating a restore point, weeding out the registry items, and even removes start menu links. I dig it.

Where exactly are you right clicking, and what are you choosing, because I don't see any options to sort the add/remove list by date installed, and there is nothing when I right click anywhere on that window.

I agree with app103. Windows' add/remove function is somewhere between crap and mediocre. Revo is very, very thorough.

Similar to Nirsoft's MyUninstaller, Free Uninstaller provides an abundance of info-- perhaps everything you could possibly want to know about your installed programs.

All I am saying is, that if he is using Vista there is no use for any third party program. Yes, there are PLENTY of faster and more advanced applications, but he only asked for this one option, date of installation, and nothing more!

- you may be right about Vista, hhdawrs, I cannot remember if this option was part of XP. Edit: I believe the feature already was implemented in Win 2000.

I just downloaded Revo and I have to say it's quite nice...and handy. Just replaced the shortcut to Windows add/remove on my taskbar with it.

XP's add/remove does not show this info. It only shows a very inaccurate date of last use.

If you look, there's also a portable version available. Great for if you don't want to make it a permanent part of your machine. (Although I can't imagine why you wouldn't.) It's a great utility.

A good reason to want a portable version is for your USB toolkit you take with you when family & friends ask you to fix their PC problems. Being able to identify when problems started and what they installed around that time can help. But it's something you might not want to leave on their system if they are the really inept type.

Just an FYI: I'm currently using XP, but I'm about to install Windows 7 on one of my machines.

- then Revo would be the best choice. This is also what I use myself. My previous talk was just to point out the easy Vista default options.

Revo:
"Options > Uninstaller > Enable fast loading mode"
+ "View > Details > Installation Date". Revo will remember this as your new default.
and a shortcut, preferably activated by a hotkey.

This combination will give you the answers in a second!
