It’s amazing how much value we give it, how much influence it has on us and how it, or a lack of it, makes us sick.

Deadlines at work, during studies and in our social lives make life rushed. You feel as if you are running from place to place, meeting one deadline just to start work on meeting the next. During the worst times you feel as if you no longer have control over your own life, you forget why you created the deadlines in the first place and just work as fast as you can like a mindless automaton. You are always busy and if you are not you start to feel guilty. There has to be something wrong with that.

Then of course you look at the big picture and once again we seem to be rushing to achieve certain goals before we are 20, 25, 30, 40, 50 or 65 years old. Am I the only one who finds it funny that we count down our lives using a numerical system that just seems designed to make us feel like we are useless, out of date and underachieving? I’m constantly trying to forget my birthday so I can just be Yaro rather than a 26, nearly 27 year old male who should be earning so much money now and doing certain things because society says I should (and my peer group are too). It’s hard to forget how old you are though because you get presents on your birthday.

I've just been pmed by mouser warning me that some were offended by my quote above. (He didn't name names btw nor am I offended by such a reaction.)

I'd just like to provide a few background for those who feel this might be inappropriate and hopefully this might clear some things up:

1. Gu ling jie shao nian sha ren shi jian aka Brighter Summer Day is not a porn movie:

2. That particular comment was being spoken by a father to his son. (a teenager leaning on the young side)

3. It was a Taiwanese film which more often than not has more conservative values than most Americans as a society.

4. The film is about kids/teenagers. Every curse word in that film was directed in such a way that you were reprimanded by an adult. (The teenage protagonist for example was shy of not moving up a grade because he cursed at a nurse.)

5. Not only that, this quote wasn't part of one of those scenes.

The internet is global. Different cultures have different values in regards to what is offensive & sometimes even seem contradictory to outsiders. I wouldn't take anything personally. Some people just have different thoughts on the matter. If it were me I'd just edit out the offending remark in the interest of keeping DonationCoder filled with shiny, happy people and not give much more thought to it.

There's got to be something wrong with translation or the movie's script writer has never had a warm, glazed Krispy Kreme donut. Never once has one given me a headache.

You've clearly not had enough, then - it's with sugar as with caffeine, you haven't had enough until you go into a jittery frenzy (which tends to be followed by headache and/or nausea).

True but this is one of those case where I chose a different path because it might help make people more curious about the movie and convince them to end up giving it a trial view.

As the first review on IMDB states, it is a lost masterpiece so it can't hurt to give it much more exposure:

Why Is This Movie Not Out On DVD?

This is a four hour film (in its full version), which took about four years to make, so financing and distribution deals were done somewhat on the hoof. I understand that Yang was trying, at the time of his death, to bring the various parties together, but obviously, sadly, never made enough headway. It is said that this film is at the very top of Criterion's wish list to release (in the wake of "A one and a two"), but that it is just too complicated to sort everything out. Without Yang around now to ease matters, I believe this one's going to take some organizing.

It's also worth pointing out that both the recent public screenings that I'm aware of (at MOMA in New York and at the NFT in London) were of the shorter version, so, basically, if you want to see this film at the moment, you'd better give superhappyfun your money.

Not only that but outside of the director's YiYi, all his other films are also pretty much non-existant even in the p2p world.

I didn't verify this but to quote another poster:

MAHJONGG and A CONFUCIAN CONFUSION are both available on the eDonkey network. I know of no other distribution of these films!

I do know that those two titles weren't available in a public torrent last time I did a search.

How much more difficult it can be to find for those who want to buy it legit.

But we're here, so I'll just add that "Time" is also one of the X concepts that makes basic civilization work. If for example you are dealing with an entity that has no concept of "time", it ruins your basic life efficiency!
(Examples include ditzy artsy friends, and "Please Hold (for 82 minutes), your call is important to us." (But not enough to staff the line better!!)

I resuscitate what may warrant a different perspective.  Other things have a hole in the middle. 
Before I actually touched one I thought a lifebuoy was made out of expanded polystyrene (styrofoam).  Nope.  It's some kind of foam but hard as a rock.
Relyable knowledge should be shared.

Sadly this is part of everyday life, anywhere anytime, not just the phone.  Wish there were downloadable groceries, clothing, pizza.
