lite dc forum version for mobile devices?
« on: July 17, 2009, 05:19 AM »
Is there some way to switch to a more minimal/lite version of the DC forum for better viewing on mobile devices with slow bandwidth and small screen?
I though I'd seen something like that but can't find it now. I searched here for wap iphone android mobile before posting.

feature idea:
It would be useful if the page
https://www.donation...action=unreadreplies
could come in a very mobile device friendly version. Maybe even one that does not require login but instead a long url that the user can generate and keep private. Example:
https://www.donation...Kswe3Fhuh2r3ihfu3ih2
To reply to posts, goto account settings and so on would still require a login.

I think this would probably be a request more adequate for SMF's forum, since it should be something more related to the forum software than to DC itself :)

Still, in the remote day when cell phone internet fees get acceptable, I'd really love to read DC on my cell phone! :D

Personally I love the idea.  I have an iPod Touch, and it would be awesome to download the unread threads and read on the bus.  Especially if I could answer them and then upload the answers when I got a signal again (of course I would still run into the thread changes since last read thingy, but still....).

Doesn't SMF have the capability?  I've seen it on some SMF forums, I thought... maybe it wasn't an out of the box mod, though...

Cool! Though all three strip a bit too much of the page, including the links. Are there even more modes than those? I'm using an android phone and browsing in standard mode is pretty ok navigation wise, but very slow on DC due to many images (I think). Standard mode with all images disabled would be just about perfect. But I guess there is no "no-image mode" right?

Nod5: doesn't android's browser have support for a 'no image' mode? I know Opera does, so I suppose other mobile browsers should have too..

jgpaiva: I don't think the default android browser has and I'm anyway sure that there's no easy way to toggle it on/off. I've had reason to look through all the settings many times because the android default browser is crap, really. Very awkward to navigate with. I run many pages image-less just fine via http://google.com/gwt/n but run into problems on login sites like DC.
