xPlorer2 vector icon - I done did it!
« on: June 17, 2009, 12:22 PM »
I was slopping around the internet the other day looking for a higher-resolution icon for xplorer2 without much luck.
"WTH, " I said to myself, "I'm pretty good with Inkscape, why not make a go of it?"

After much clicking and zooming and turning my head sideways (the text part was tricky as HELL), I've come up with something I'm mostly happy with:
TA-DA!!

x2screenshot.png

Here's the vector file for you tweakers:
http://www.mediafire...5netkzj/xplorer2.svg

And for the xplorer2 forum junkies, here's my post there:
http://netez.com/bbs...ic.php?p=43813#43813

Let me know what you think!  :)

Thanks, glad you like it.
The latest tweak I think is going to keep me happy for awhile until I get more feedback.

Thanks taichimaster!

@Fenixproductions: Sorry, I tried to secksify it with some shiny bubbles, drop shadows, table reflections, etc. but it just ruined the whole gestalt, sorry.  :(

Actually I'm very impressed that such a simple icon could so effectively communicate what the program is about without resorting to an actual screenshot.

I liked the above xplorer² icons/logos, but I think this is rather nice too:

A bit of a long story, but my icons got flagged as pirated copies of xplorer2, so Mediafire sent me a copy of Nikos' DMCA takedown.
I filed a counter-argument, talked to Nikos (he was cool about everything and helpful) but the files were flagged two weeks later, so I went ahead and deleted them and replaced them with this:
A zip file containing the SVG and a 128-pixel PNG, named 'x2icons' so hopefully it won't get flagged again.
Enjoy!:

Is this the same icon that people used without your permission? You should send Nikos a DMCA takedown. >:(

Actually, it was the one here:
https://www.donation....msg169548#msg169548
That got used on Brothersoft and softwarecrew.com and a few others.
You know, I didn't bother licensing the thing, so LEGALLY anybody is free to use it unless I make a stink.
Sure, I can prove I made it, just by the posts here and at the Netez forum, but it I can't imagine it would accomplish anything significant.
I'm more careful about these things now...  :-[
