There is a video I want you guys to see, but you need to be introduced to it in the same context that I saw it in, just to avoid thinking it's some kind of Candid Camera style prank.

Everyday Usability in Japan

Train ticket machines

  •     allows users to insert travel card in any orientation at any point during a transaction
  •     accepts coins as fast as you can throw them in (multiple at once)
  •     complex edge cases are designed-in rather than designed-out of the system
  •     this is what happens if you press the help button (must be seen to be believed)

Foreword: in my zone there is an ADSL brand having the name of a woman. To make this joke suitable for English/American language I will call that ADSL as Margaret. As far as I know, in English/American language Margaret is a female name only.

---------------

An old man, who knows just nothing about informatics, hears that someone is ringing the bell. He goes near the door and asks:

"Who are you?"

A male voice answers: "I am Margaret!"

"And what you want?"

"I have the ADSL"

The old man murmurs: "Poor guy, he is homosexual and even ill..."
"A refrigerator without beer is like a body without soul"

Marriage - This attempts to illustrate the full logical consequence of recent UK legislation.
-----------------------
"Good morning. We want to apply for a marriage license."

"Names?"

"Tim and Jim Jones."

"Jones?? Are you related??  I see a resemblance."

"Yes, we're brothers."

"Brothers?  You can't get married."

"Why not??  Aren't you giving marriage licenses to same gender couples?"

"Yes, thousands. But we haven't had any siblings. That's incest!"

"Incest?" No, we are not gay."

"Not gay??  Then why do you want to get married?"

"For the financial benefits, of course. And we do love each other. Besides, we don't
have any other prospects."

"But we're issuing marriage licenses to gay and lesbian couples who've been denied equal
protection under the law. If you are not gay, you can get married to a woman."

"Wait a minute. A gay man has the same right to marry a woman as I have. But just because
I'm straight doesn't mean I want to marry a woman. I want to marry Jim."

"And I want to marry Tim, Are you going to discriminate against us just because we are not
gay?"

"All right, all right. I'll give you your license. Next."

"Hi. We are here to get married."

"Names?"

"John Smith, Jane James, Robert Green, and June Johnson."

"Who wants to marry whom?"

"We all want to marry each other."

"But there are four of you!"

"That's right. You see, we're all bisexual. I love Jane and Robert, Jane loves me and
June, June loves Robert and Jane, and Robert loves June and me. All of us getting
married together is the only way that we can express our sexual preferences in a
marital relationship."

"But we've only been granting licenses to gay and lesbian couples."

"So you're discriminating against bisexuals!"

"No, it's just that, well, the traditional idea of marriage is that it's just for couples."

"Since when are you standing on tradition?"

"Well, I mean, you have to draw the line somewhere."

"Who says?? There's no logical reason to limit marriage to couples. The more the better.
Besides, we demand our rights! The mayor says the constitution guarantees equal
protection under the law.  Give us a marriage license!"

"All right, all right. Next."

"Hello, I'd like a marriage license."

"In what names?"

"David Deets."

"And the other man?"

"That's all. I want to marry myself."

"Marry yourself??  What do you mean?"

"Well, my psychiatrist says I have a dual personality, so I want to marry the two
of us together.  Maybe I can then file a joint income-tax return ?"

"That does it!? I quit!!?  You people are making a mockery of marriage!!"

That recent retreat that your local librarians went on... well, it's toughened them up so that you don't screw with them.

Fear your librarian... then fear your librarian once more...

The girl in the middle, her facial expressions crack me up. Maybe just a little over-coached?

Well, I'd say to be a little careful of those kinds of "reductio" excursions!

About half of those talking lines were run backwards in the USA last year leading to the Supreme Court "starting" to legalize gay marriage.

No one likes taxes, but at least they have a point you're not supposed to file "frivolous" tax returns. So I find the last set a little offensive because it edges over into a backhanded insult of one of the more "notorious" but actually serious psychiatric conditions. I did a hobby research project on it ten years ago and it's far from haha funny!   :o

Going along with all the not-so-funny humor and not-very-credible stories here recently, I provide this piece of Halloween horror.

Nobody has seen Krishean lately. Maybe he finally succeeded in uploading himself and is busy infecting computers.

Ofc, if he did do that, people wouldn't be afraid as much as they would be amazed...and quite happy, once he fixed all the software bugs and optimized everything to run better, faster.  ;D

<Krishean> and i'm working on getting my consciousness uploaded lol, thats a long term project
<Krishean> i'd probably end up being a virus
<Krishean> except instead of screwing things up i would optimize all the programs on your computer lol
<Krishean> y halo thar code bloat... lets just fix that while i'm passing through

If you find that funny ... ?

Personally I found that holocaust "joke" pretty offensive.

On a thread marked NSFW, I'm hesitant to remove it.

Still, when i see such posts, like the political posts, i just think ah, maybe that's one of the reasons we seem to have less and less new people joining our family here..

Maybe I'm being overly sensitive -- I'm just more and more feeling like we have to do something to improve this place, and seeing posts like this doesn't make me feel good.  Perhaps if I felt like we were a thriving community it would just be a tiny drop in the water.  But I feel like we are treading water and things like this start to feel like we loading up our own pockets with stones.

I should say that ArizonaHot has posted tons of interesting inoffensive posts, so I know know offense was meant by this one, and I don't mean to single any one out.  Like I said, in the whole scheme of things, this isn't a big deal -- it's just coming at a time when i'm spending a lot of time worrying about how to make this site a more welcoming site for new people..

It's why I've advocated for months now that any "humor" of a politicoreligious nature be relegated to the Basement.
