I think these would be nice in a context menu:
Looks like too many items to me. I might put Expand All/Collapse All as toolbar buttons as they're not item specific. The rest will need some thinking about.

On a side note, w.r.t. expanding and collapsing, I think it'd be nice to be able to restore the expanded / collapsed state if I ever choose Collapse All or Expand All (say, by accident, or even to get a quick peek).  Does it make sense and what do you think of the idea?
Sounds like a good idea. If I can manage to get Undo to work like that I will do.

The following seem to me to work better with clicking and dragging (rather than in a context menu):
Yes, I agree. Drag and Drop is something that I'd like to implement. Unfortunately last time I tried it, it was a little awkward - dragging and dropping would mess with the item's checkbox status >:(

Delete key does nothing :(
Please also add LiveFilter feature.

----------
BUG
----------
Steps to reproduce:
1. start TreeList.exe
2. type filename and hit Enter key,
3. new node is focused in edit mode,
4. write something down and hit Enter,
5. press "Menu" key (between right Win and Ctrl)
6. node's checkbox disappears!

Notes
- occasionally it hapens also for other nodes (and their children).

Terrific. The hierarchical functionality is what's missing from JustDoIt IMO.
Interesting differences between the two.

This has the hierarchy. And multiple lists.
JustDoIt has moving of the done items, a record of what is done (can be kept long-term, on daily, weekly, monthly etc basis), a very easy way to import items in bulk and 'automatic export'.

Congratulations Richard, as a simple To Do List it works fine (at least I couldn't break it).

And simple is pretty nice. I also use ToDoList, which now does almost everything, but it's not small and quick anymore (well, not as small and quick as it used to be)

I also use ToDoList, but like most tasklist/todolist progs it is complex and not well suited to quick lists of transitory stuff. So simple tasklist progs definitely have their place, and probably would be used most often. In comparing this with ToDoList and JustDoIt, it seems to me that this is the prog that is best for very transitory jotting and todo management, JustDoIt interfaces well with other progs (easy to export from ToDoList into it for example) and is better for checking whether something was done and so fits in-between TreeList and ToDoList. I hope both progs develop further because they could both be even more useful than they are now.

I would like to be able to see more text visible (ie that the text box is able to go as wide as the window). Also easy export/import; I assume it would not be too much of a prob to do this with xml files.

Hey, thanks everyone with all the help and feedback you've given me while I've been writing my first NANY. It's been a great experience.

I'm happy to announce this app well and truly released!

Development will continue as there are still quite a few things I want to fix/add to the app. If you're interested you can keep an eye here or on the Tree List web page.

Happy New Year!

Hmm... this is still one of the easiest software todolists I've used. (Hierarchy management being still archaic in many free to do managers) Too bad it can't handle lots of items. I have lost an entire todolist from putting too much in it into one category. As soon as I moved to another space and returned, only a few (5 or so) items remained.

I've identified and fixed a bug in Tree List which would cause you to lose items from a list. Hopefully it's the bug that caused your problem, Paul.

The fixed version is on the site now:
http://theunusualsus...m/software/tree-list

Just delete your existing Tree List.exe and replace it with the new one.

Thanks.

Thanks for the update Richard. The bug didn't seem to appear anymore although I didn't check thoroughly. (Only had 24 checkboxes in total)

However, I did encounter a new bug where the info from a list got moved into a separate blank list.

I believe the bug happened when there were enough items for there to be a scroll bar.

I've not encountered the second issue you mentioned. Can you explain in detail how it happened? I'll look out for it.

Thanks.

Richard

Well, to test out whether it could handle lots of items without encountering the bug, I created only one list. Later on, the uncertainty of not knowing whether an item is being saved made me create a second blank list.

Eventually as soon as I moved to the other list, at first it was blank, but after trying it again later on, I notice the list copied the previous contents of the original list. I knew it copied it because the list only had the contents of the older entries so it didn't move the 3 newer checkboxes of the original list with it.

Hello,

I think deviantopian could add the possibility to export the list into xml format.
What do you think?

Hope I'm not annoying anyone by digging into NANY's past, but I just noticed that there doesn't seem to be an About feature (that I can find!) So I have collected so many fun utilities I forgot where this came from!
