To all,

I need a mail notification program which I can setup for my wife to alert her when I (or others) have emailed her. Ideally, it would have ways of notifying via tray popup, tooltips, or any other combination of methods. What do you know of and recommend? The sooner the response on this, the better. This will help me on an upcoming military deployment.

Any thoughts?

Its a bit much, but digsby will do that, along with managing im clients and social networks like facebook and twitter
last I check, it was only for windows (right now)

I used poppeeper for years till I got it all going through gmail. It was good, reliable and is the one I would use if I still needed one. I went on a bit of a look the other day ad nothing seems to have turned up that is any better.

I use the mail notification feature in gkrellm on GNU/Linux... Probably no use to you though

Also take a look at the Poppy Screensaver Companion at the same site. Sets up a screensaver to work with the mail notifier application.

Just tried it. Nice, probably reliable, and small for download, but consuming over 200 MB of RAM with a single account, and even with its main window closed seems to me too much. The full Outlook 2003 takes usually 20 MB, occasionally 30 MB maximum. Or is there any option for this?

something must be wrong here. I have it monitoring 5 email accounts, 2 yahoo, 3 gmail, and 1 hotmail, (with a totla of about 400 messages) and it's using just over 4mb for me.

Are you using full message download or just preview or headers? I have full messages, and around 400 of them. Besides, I'm on Vista Business. Thanks for any tip.

full messages for POP3, Webmail, and IMAP. you might try changing the storage options to see if that changes anything. mine is set to store entire messages to disk. you may also want to fire off an email to the developers. they were pretty responsive last time I had a problem (many moons ago).

I remember using ePrompter years ago and it worked quite well.

ePrompter also lets you read, delete and respond to any of your messages with a simple click on the account of your choice - without ever having to launch your email program or go to your webmail's site. Importantly, when ePrompter retrieves messages, it leaves the original messages on your various email accounts' servers and/or webmail sites.

Thanks Edvard, but ePrompter doesn't work at all here -- "timed out" on every update attempt. Besides, its design is a bit outdated, isn't it? I couldn't stand it for long, anyway...

hehe, yeah it's a little dated. Hasn't changed any since I used it in the Win98 days...

Don't know about the timeout problem. I know some folks who still use it and it works well.
If you can't stand the look, it wouldn't matter much...

No one mentioned FreePOPs so thought I would - I usually use Poppy, but it wouldn't get Hotmail whereas FreePOPs does.

I've been using PopTray to keep an eye on 4 different accounts and its worked great for me. Includes simple "rules" processing as well.
