just as mnemonic mentioned earlier, application shortcuts open in a window by itself without any tabs, urlbar etc and it's not restricted to google apps only. any web apps can opened this way but so far i have only tested with yahoo messenger.

It's Tuesday and still nothing. no download yet of this browser.
I've heard now it's going to be Wednesday.

I have to say if this browser ever gets ported into Linux, it is a mouse gesture and session away from dethroning IE. This is a really strong first start from Google. The user interface is bare bones but this is like the default look I've been clamoring for Opera to have and I wouldn't be surprised if word gets out that this is the Microsoft OneNotes version of Internet Explorer for those who don't know what a browser is.

It stole or mimicked (I'm still on the fence at this point) what was considered by many a poor design by Opera and turned the address bar below tab bar MDI into something hip and innovative and it manages to cross the look barrier by making it look like IE but not exactly a carbon copy of it that old and new users alike would feel very comfortable with using this browser.

It even has the one click private browsing which I loved in Safari and for basic uses, I find it hard to find fault with this one especially considering that this is basically the 1st beta.

I haven't tested but I suppose that "Raff has cooked up a harmless demo of the attack in action, showing how a Google Chrome users can be lured into downloading and launching a JAR (Java Archive) file that gets executed without warning." might also mean that browser will download it without your knowledge.

This "flaw" is available because Google used old WebKit without checking it's bugs (probably the last part).

Technically it's not a vulnerability because it's not exploitable as far as we know now.

Really love it. Really miss Roboform though, but it browsers so fast, especially javascript heavy sites like our bugtracking system (fogbugz). It's very polished for a beta although I couldn't create a shortcut for one site, and some things look unfinished or out of place. But a very encouraging start and it's a browser i can see recommending to people that are hestitant of too many interface options.

You also have to realise this is not really a browser as a direct competitor to firefox and ie:

In the long term, we think of Chromium as a tabbed window manager or shell for the web rather than a browser application. We avoid putting things into our UI in the same way you would hope that Apple and Microsoft would avoid putting things into the standard window frames of applications on their operating systems.

That's just a philosophy thing: Gmail for example may still be marked as a beta, but it's actively developed and works pretty well, doesn't it?

What if someday GMail will drop millions of e-mails? Will it be OK to hear: "Sorry but this is only beta"?

There is some well known sentence to describe it:

One thing I noted is how fast all this Google browser happened.
Until a couple of days ago, I haven't heard any serious rumors or hint about such kind of release.
Then... BOOM! I think it come as a real surprise for many.

I don't remember Google blaming anything to the Beta label? And the only time beta is mentioned in Chrome's help is talking about a beta java release.

Conveniently, admuncher cannot stop ads in google Chrome :0
I hope they (admuncher) release a new version addressing this new browser.
Although I don't think it'll happen fast. There are people in the opera forums with a sig that says: "do not support admuncher, development is too slow".

I also suspect that because I'm running admuncher, some javascript-heavy sites are misbehaving more than they should too. For a start, google sites under opera and FF is unusable. If I turn off admuncher, it works fine.

See here. Or try similar programs, like Proxomitron, Privoxy or a customized HOSTS file.

As for Opera and Firefox, really, use the adblocker in the first, and Adblock Plus in the second. Google sites work fine with them, and you can deactivate them in a snap if needed.
