Question...any chance that, somewhere in the future multiple, independent (i.e. with different icons/links/etc) instances of the program could run at the same time?

(Or should I just do this by having two different CD folders in different locations under different names?)

Right now, Circle Dock will only allow you to run one instance of the program per computer even if you have separate folders with copies of Circle Dock. I purposely did this for 0.9.2 because I was afraid people were going to try to run multiple copies of Circle Dock from the same folder, which can work but then when you change some settings or add some icons, then things wouldn't save properly. It was just a way to try and make launching the program fool proof.

However, I do want to allow launching multiple instances of the program from separate folders. There is just one line of code I have to change that would allow this. Circle Dock 0.9.1 already allowed you to run multiple instances from separate folders. Perhaps I should just allow this for Alpha 8?

I see your reasons for not allowing it. The reason I bring it up is that I think it would be useful to to have one "permanent" (perhaps immovable) dock somewhere on the screen and one callable dock as well. I've found CD incredibly useful as a callable dock, and have made it a permanent addition to the way I use my computer, but there are often times when I think that the combination mentioned above would end up being even more time-efficient, and I think being able to have a second CD instance for the permanent fixture would be an elegant way of doing it.

Come to think of it, would it be possible to include in a future release a setting that renders the dock immovable?

Here's an interesting bug.  Launch the dock, then left-click and hold the mouse button down on the center icon.  While holding the mouse button down, hit your keyboard shortcut to toggle the dock.  The rest of the dock will disappear but the icon that is currently being clicked will remain.

I've also attached my auto-hotkey script to launch circledock by holding down the left mouse button followed by pressing the right one.  Note: your circledock keyboard toggle must be set to CTRL-ALT-Z for this to work.

Ok, I just fixed that bug for Alpha 8. I hope to get this out soon. It doesn't have everything I wanted done but there are enough useful features and bug fixes for a new release. I just have to get the translators to translate it to their languages.

As for your AutoHotkey script, I think quite a few people would be interested in that. I'll have to try it out!

Vid, you rock.  Just wanted you to know that.

I redid my script to use the middle button + right button and like that more than the left + right button.   I'll be glad to post that up too, if anyone wants it.

I tried your AHK script out and I'm wondering if there is a way for you to have a timer on it so that you can capture the left-mouse click so it doesn't get sent to other applications?

Remove context menu?
« Reply #81 on: September 10, 2008, 02:03 AM »
Hi just downloaded Circle Dock and i am stoked!!! Great program.

I was in the process of creating something very very similar (although not as cool) to aid co-workers on our IT Helpdesk.

I have one quick question, is there a way i can set the dock up and then remove the right-click menu so my staff can't modify it once I have it customized?

Thx once again, an invaluable tool  :D

There is no option to do this through the program, but you could always go into the source code and comment out the lines that say this.ContextMenu = ..... and then there won't be any more right-click menus, even in the tray icon. I recommend waiting until this Sunday to do it because that is when Alpha 8 is definitively going to be released with some bug fixes and some new features.

Great! That's good news.

Could you tell me what would be a good compiler to use? (Since i'm not a programmer as such)

Thx again :D

Circle Dock is written using http://www.microsoft...com/express/vcsharp/

To take away the context menus, you will have to search for the word ContextMenu through the project and comment out the code that deals with it. You will need to do this for MainForm.Designer.cs and TransparentObject.cs. The other parts of the code don't need to be touched. For TransparentObject.cs, you will also need to look under the ...MouseUp(...) type functions and comment out the code relating the context menus.

If you are willing to wait, I could probably do it for you sometime after this Sunday's official release of Alpha 8.

Hi again.

I worked out that you used C# after the last post (sorry!). I did comment out the items in MainForm.designer.cs and TransparentObject.cs and a couple of others i came across and this did fix the context menu appearing on the menu itself, however the tray icon still had it's context menu. I'll keep playing around, but since i am not proficient in C# i don't wan't to muck around too much in case i break something :D

I will eagerly await Sunday's new build, if you could assist me with the source after that i will be very appreciative!

Keep up the awesome work.

V.I.P., I have to say this is a wonderful program, and a great alternative to ObjectDock.  I recently d/l a circle dock for DesktopX, but it was pretty much featureless.  Just launched like 6 pre picked files, and no rotation.  I give this     !!!  I can't stop customizing it, I'm working on a few Vista Glass Style rings, but I have 2 questions.  One is, what is the purpose of the skin files with the backgrounds and seperators??  Maybe I just missed a feature somewhere in the menu.  The second is, I like the Idea that someone posted about the clock as a center button/image.  I put it around my sidebar clock and positioned it in the middle of my desktop, set the center to totally opaque, and disabled the mouse point location, it looks really cool, would like it to be permanently located in the center of my desktop, maybe with a hot key to call it on top of windows when I need it.  Any chance of getting some docklets later on down the line like OD??  It would be cool to use the center for a multiple docklet, everytime you click it, it will toggle between clock, calendar/ date, weather, maybe even a cpu meter??  This is going to be a huge, helpful, and useful app, I believe the possibilities are pretty much endless right now, just a matter of time.  Thanx, and I am glad to be using this, and will be directing many ppl here to try it out.  LoL, Damn, sorry for such a long and wordy comment, I'm hopped up on caffiene right now.

To get rid of the context menu for the tray icon, comment out this.MainFormTrayIcon.ContextMenuStrip = this.MainFormContextMenuStrip; in MainForm.Designer.cs.

I'll make up a sort of "kiosk" version of Circle Dock after Sunday and post it on the Circle Dock website.

Thanks for trying Circle Dock out. If you want to permanently locate Circle Dock at one spot, you should get Alpha 8 (to be officially released this Sunday): http://circledock.wi...ebugAndTranslate.zip

One of the new features is an option to lock the position of the dock to one spot. This is found under Settings -> Location. You may also want to set Circle Dock to "Always on Bottom" under Settings -> General.

I included the "Skins" folder because in the near future, I want to add a straight line option to the Shapes settings panel and it would use these skins for the background just like Rocket Dock and Object Dock. They are not used right now but it is better I include them ahead of time so they are there when I want to deploy a new feature.

After I finished version 0.9.2, the first thing I will look at is adding support for docklets, either the Object Dock variety or if I have to, a version of my own. However, I definitely prefer to reuse existing docklets if at all possible. I hope I can work out how Object Dock handles it's docklets.

Awesome, thanx for the fast reply, I was playing around with DesktopX and CD and thought I'd throw up a couple screenshots of what could possibly be some great concepts.  This is just CD Overlayed on a couple widgets I have.  I hope you like them!!  Also, I dunno if this is what you mean, but I would like the dock to always be on the desktop, and not disappear when I open a file.  It would be set to "always on bottom" but maybe use the "CTRL + 0" hot keys to temporarily call it to top to open a file without closing windows, and have it go back to bottom once file is opened.  Well, here are my concepts.....

Legendary! Can't wait :)

Just one more quick question tho... I'm going to be running CD from a folder on a server that starts up with Windows for my staff, I am going to try locking down the Settings folder that contains the .ini's to prevent further "hacking" of the dock, will this have any adverse affects? I guess the users will still be able to drag'n'drop onto the dock and that those changes will persist until the program is closed, but will then return to normal on next run?

Cheers again, excellent program!!!

Wow, those are cool backgrounds! I especially like the Dual Ring version.

Do you want to include those for Alpha 8 tomorrow? I could feature them on the Circle Dock homepage. Just send me an e-mail at [email protected]. Sorry that I can't help you with the glass type effects. I'm not an advanced Photoshop user so I can't create those kind of graphics.

With the kiosk version of Circle Dock, it would only need to read from the .ini files or any other files for that matter so you can safely lock down the entire Circle Dock folder. You users won't be able to add or remove any of the items with the "Circle Dock Kiosk.exe". They will be able to launch it, use it to launch items and dock folders but everything else will be locked out including the settings panels.

I think you should definitely have a section for user submitted backgrounds/art etc. Custom backgrounds seem to be popular and not everyone is a Photoshop king :P I'm going to try make some new ones later today !

How would one go about uninstalling this program?  I can't find it in my add/delete new programs in my computer.  Also, it goes away when I click on an icon.  How would I get it back up???
