Wonder why I've never heard of this before. Looks like a fine PIM.

FDD is a site that posts one free download a day.

The programs that are posted on their site stay on their site.
It's not just free for one day.
But I suppose for as long as the programs remain free.
There are quite a few downloads always there.

I keep up with it with my reader.

Ah, I thought they had done something wrong - with such a short first post, I didn't really know what to look for. The DC community has some sharp anti-badware watchdogs, so I was sorta expecting foul play :)

I can understand that!

I've been a fan of this site for a long time.

Never had a bad program from their links that are posted.

Although a bit disappointed at times when the program looks really great, only to find that it's for a mac.

There are programs for pc, macs and linux.
In all sorts of categories.

Digging a few clicks deeper hits this-

Konrad Papala's AC Browser Plus is my favourite file manager. It has more features than I have yet learnt to use :).

My only problem is that ACB tends to freeze while loading my Downloads folder. Then again, the folder is > 2 GB in size...

My main D/L folder is over 20 GB, and I access it a lot. I don't think I'll try ACB. :-\

Being aware of one person having trouble with a program does not stop me from checking the program out for myself.
It may not be the program's fault anyway.

Some may find today's posting at the site interesting indeed.

I access my download folder a lot, too, so freezing is a problem. Any other file managers I have don't suffer from that.
I really should write to K. Papala about it. He's very responsive. Too bad he had to close down the original forum because of spam  >:(

From the little time that I have played with AC Browser, I haven't had the freezing problem anne_r. And I have opened some very large folders.

I hope you can get whatever it is causing the freezing solved.

The freezing started all of a sudden. That's why I thought my ever growing download folder was the cause. Hmm...

FYI: Just opened two folders, one with 50.1 GB and 49,905 files. The other with 17.4 GB in 4063 files. No hang ups or freezes no matter what hoops I put it through. How much RAM do you have in your system?

not that I need to try this file manager, but sounds strange that it should freeze if there's a folder larger than 2GB. that's not an uncommon size.

You should contact the developer

Thanks for testing!
I have 2 GB of RAM and I run Windows Vista HP. I tested a little bit of this and that, too, and found out that the program which uses all my CPU when ACB loads is in fact Norman Virus Control (well it came with the computer!). If I turn off the real-time scanning in Norman, ACB has no problem opening my download folder.

Other file managers (like PowerDesk or XYplorer) load fast whether Norman is on or off. So Norman and ACB don't like each other?

You might want to check out ProcessTamer. Written by none other than DC's own Mouser. Terrific utility that keeps resource hogs in check. I joined DC because I was so impressed with it! :)

Thank you! I will certainly check it out.
I have just bought AnVir Task Manager Pro, which is a great tool for tracking processes, services, start-up programs etc. One of its features is to limit CPU usage of background processes when it exceeds certain level.
