yesterday there was a message on the website mentioning something about an upgrade. maybe it's being done in stages. just clear your cache & try again. fingers crossed, it'll work again. ;)

Oh, I think he meant cash... click on "Give out some credits" link, be extremely generous (clear the cash), now cross your fingers and pray. Go to youtube and try watching another video.

that was happening to me a good bit a while back, I was going to post & then it cleared up
e.g. the George Carlin thread - when that was posted I couldnt see *any* of the videos - no problem for others to see them
Also same problem in Opera so I dont think it was to do with cache :-\

papoj1: Does that happen with all videos? Even the ones on the main page?
What browser do you use? (Internet Explorer, Firefox, Opera, etc).

more weird youtube developments - may as well post here ;)

try this George Carlin one
http://ca.youtube.co...&feature=related

it loads,
starts to play (without sound) but stops after a couple of seconds or less
clicking play/pause makes no difference

same in Opera & IE - does it work for you people out there?

Tom: It works here.. Opera 9.52.
Now that I'm thinking... Could youtube be using different servers, depending on where you're located? That might be an explanation.

sound problem was a problem with my pc

have the problem again now after pc going to sleep
(or did I hibernate it..- no just sent it to sleep, definitely)

so it seems like a local problem here - something that affects flash player I presume?
but flash has different "installs" for different browsers - doesnt it?
so it's affecting them all...

[edit - with apologies to papoj1 for veering off topic
we could always move to the thread where I ranted about soundcard drivers cause it could be related
see (rant) updating drivers :( / whatever :)

I have the same issue, it RARELY works on the first load but after 2-15+(!) refreshes it works (yes, I am willing to wait for it to refresh that many times to watch a video that is shorter than the time it takes to refresh).

Firefox 3 on Vista Home Prem SP1

Seemed to happen after FF3, not because of FF3, but just coincidentally YouTube fscked up the service at the same time. I have friends that complain of the same thing on occasion, but for me it is near constant.

EDIT: 3/3 video loads worked first try via IP and not www.youtube.com, FYI

so does that mean the problem is with YouTube's IP or with ours?
Youtubes I presume? - but I just ask cause I've had some problems with phpBB forums caused by my IP provider using different addresses all the time ...

hard to tell but my guess would be the ISP's local DNS servers somehow couldn't resolve the host name (youtube.com). so in the meantime, just bypass the situation by using IP address. you'll have no problems unless youtube decides to change the IP. ;)

your ISP assigns you a dynamic IP each time you connect to the internet, that's why you have different IP address.

okay,
this getting a bit off-topic (apologies to youtubers)
let me quote from the phpBB forum

The most common fault for this type of problem is the use of an ISP which is using cached proxy servers.

They do this to reduce the bandwidth that thier customers use, thereby keeping thier costs lower.

The downside to this is you may often change IP's, while in the same session, while viewing forums.

Forum software is often configered to note the IP that you are on, as part of the session data, so if you change IP's by a significant amount (say more than just the last set of numbers - 123.123.123.xxx) it will assume you are not the same user that was previously active with that session.

Download this.

http://www.geekstogo...oads&showfile=21

Check "Select All" then "Empty Selected".
Also for Firefox and Opera if you have them.
I think just the Cache will work for those two browsers.
But if not Check "Select All" for them also.

This is an excellent utility and has fixed many a youtube problem and more.
