http://www.flexigensoft.com/accelman

lots of other programs when you click downloads

a rather interesting set of tools

I've been playing with them, but not quite good with them yet.
But I thought someone would like these.

Well...actually I only found 4 programs on the site so far.
That's not 'lots'.

It says they are freeware, but they are not? Accelman asks for a reg key and website is not clear about this matter.

i had tried one of FlexiGen's program from a recent GAOTD offer but didn't like it that much to keep it.

@kartal:i think they are commercial being given away for free. therefore require a reg key which is also being away at the same page as the downloads.

Why your freeware ask for registration key?

when you click that reg key link it will open in your browser

save it -the web page-as whatever file it says and use the enter reg code under help in the program
to browse to it and the program will pick it up

kartal, it did that on me the first time too
i logged off and back on
then it worked

incidentally Samer from freewaregenius has done a write-up about this program today.

Yeah, that's where I got the heads up on it.

At this point I can't say I agree with the assessments of programs  from freewaregenius. I enjoy the programs themselves though.

But to each his own.

That's why I don't post the write up from freeware genius.

But here's what dc folks have said-

Yeah, that's where I got the heads up on it.

let's remember to give credit to a site when we post about something we discover from there, even if we don't agree with it.

Agreed mouser, I wanted a fresh look if possible.
I am sure many follow frewaregenius and figured it would come up.

Some good input from previous posts about the program here at dc also.

Which is where I heard of this program first.

Thgough I got the 'heads up' on free from freewaregenius.

I tried the various free versions, but didn't care to keep any of them - don't get me wrong, they are not bad, not at all, they just didn't get to me, they somehow seemed to not having been finished.

Yeah that's sort of the impression i get too Curt.

Like a great idea started then stopped somehow.
Even with the other programs.

AccelMan does have some uniqueness for sure.

I had a healthy correspondence going with the developer over a year ago (right after version 3.5 was released) and he was very helpful and positive. Sad to see that development hasn't gone forward since then - presumably his life intruded! AccelMan 3.5 is quite buggy, sadly, though nothing that I turned up was dangerous per se, the issues are with things like GUI continuity (great, now I sound like Chris Pirillo) and rendering. Only example I can remember off the top of my head is that all of the folder icons in the tree view would randomly move the MIDDLE of the text, obliterating it. Anyway, it's a very powerful file manager and if you can live with the idiosyncracies, an EXCELLENT value as free ware. I hope the author finds some time to get 3.6 out the door.

Now I found the time to give AccelMan a test run. Seems to have the potential to steal the first place as the most bloated, unintuitive file manager, right before Directory Opus (which will never be my favorite one, it is powerful but....).

And I haven't even managed to make it run continuously. Started it - no AccelMan appears. Killed its process, started it again - works. Exited, started it - no AccelMan appears.

Looking forward to any further development, though...

I've been using Accelman for quite a time now and once you get used to its particularities, it turns out to be one of the fastest and most useful managers (that I have ever tried, and I've tried most of them).
It's true that it has some quirks and a few bugs but it also has many half-hidden wonders.
Just wish it were still being developed...

Directory Opus has always struck me as being the equivalent of sticking the user in the cockpit of a 767 airplane that's heading straight on a collision course with a mountaintop and giving the user a 4,000 page user manual & saying, "Welp, you got this...I'll leave you alone now."

That's an exaggeration, of course, but sometimes one does get that feeling when trying to figure out the intricacies of DOpus configuration. Master those intricacies and you have access to some real power. My only real beef with the program is its pricing structure, though.

It's true that it has some quirks and a few bugs but it also has many half-hidden wonders.
Just wish it were still being developed...

It was an innovator in its day. AccelMan had numerous features before they were in any other file manager. I think the author either got bored with the project or he finally hit a wall where he was running into problems that were beyond his programming abilities.

A lifetime license wouldn't solve the problems either, would it?

Now this is one of the reasons I haven't developed my own file manager yet...  ;D

Hmm...that's a good question. Just checking the DOpus site on pricing...man, they nickel and dime you to death....license for 1 PC is AUD$85...want to be able to use DOpus on a second PC that's AUD$35 more...Advanced FTP capabilities is another AUD$10 per license...USB/U3 support is yet another AUD$10 per license....

Holy crap! At those prices the angels better descend from the very heavens and write blessed code on purified PCs...and wait till you see the generous 'discount' they give on upgrades. Better bend over, Bucky.

I guess if that AUD$85 was a lifetime license with no restrictions on how many of your PCs you could install it on while including the Advanced FTP & USB/U3 options I might be able to stomach that. It's still very expensive, but you'd get a lot of functionality for your money.
