IDEA: X Windows Style Death Mouse (xkill)

Would be nice to have on windows:  double-click the icon to start, the mouse
changes to a skull and crossbones, the next window that you click on, the
underlying process is killed; the mouse reverts.

:) Try this and see if it does what you want.

Kill - Close or kill the window under the mouse.

Features:
- Leftclick to Close.
- Ctrl-Leftclick to Kill.
- Esc Cancels.
- Place it on your QuickRun toolbar for easy access.

You'll find the downloads and more info at Skrommel Software.

What does killing a program mean?

'Killing' just means forcing the program to stop and exit immediately. It won't do any housekeeping functions (like telling you that you haven't saved your work).

Yay! I do that to MS outlook but with Ctrl+Alt+Del end now.

It's just a way to find quicker/easier ways to do it. Ctrl/Alt/Del brings up a window with all processes showing - killing some of them would have knock on effects on the entire system. Doing it on a window basis would allow just the relevant processes to be killed without the temptation to fiddle with others.

Hi

This is a very cool app but I personally would like a more brutal approach. I just want it to be more agressive on unresponsive applications. It tries to close or kill which fine but ultimate termination of the process would be more helpful in certain situations

thanks

I downloaded KILL for Windows. Immediately, my AVG Anti-virus warned of multiple infections in the downloaded File. I immediately deleted the KILL file. Has anyone else had this issue. DonationCoder.com needs to check out their link to this file

I try to download kill.exe from https://www.donation...mmel/index.html#Kill
and my antivirus resident scanner alerts with worm:autoit.xkx

The file will not download.  Please pass this along...

Thanks for reporting this, but it's a false positive. Virus scanners keep flagging AutoHotKey applications as containing viruses, even though they are clean and legitimate.

What I've been wondering is...how long before what we think of as a false positive turns out not to be...

I wish more authors would consider publishing crypto checksums (and then go ahead w/ it) -- it's not perfect but I think it works better than conversing about version X.Y.
