I actually have little running on my computers anymore (not interesting enough to take an image), but if I recall correctly, App103 has one of the most insane taskbar setups I have ever seen. It seriously takes like 1/3 of the screen.

Hopefully she posts here and shows us what it looks like now (the images I remember are somewhat old).

That isn't the taskbar, it's the "taskbar notification area" - the taskbar is the whole bar, including taskbar buttons etc.

That said, you do have quite some icons going there :)

How about an explanation of what all those icons represent. I know some of them, obviously, but a lot of them are new to me. I'll post a screenshot eventually

kartal: you're on a quadcore with 8 gigs of ram? What a coincidence, so am I :)

Here's what my entire taskbar looks like:
taskbar.pngMy Taskbar Notification Area Competition

and just the notify icon area:
notify.png

Process Explorer (not always running), Screenshot Captor (not always running), Website Watcher, sound applet, safe remove, The Bat!, Realtek Sound manager (I should remove this, it sucks :P), FARR, ClipX, MagicDisc, PuTTY's pageant.

This is my system tray (i.e. taskbar notification tray), using LiteStep as shell. I've got quite a few more icons, actually, but they're hidden since I don't need to see them.

Opera Internet Browser [Opera.exe] Screenshot - 15.03.2008 , 11_26_56.png

Top L->R: Process Tamer, FARR, KeePass, Clipboard H+S, RMClock (cpu load), Intel Wireless, Avast!, PhraseExpress, Screenshot Captor

Bottom L->R: Opera, an AHK script with msn icon (don't know why I picked that icon), Website-Watcher, FavMenu (an AHK script), RMClock (cpu temp), RMClock (main icon displaying power profile), sound, OneNote, Total Commander

I keep almost nothing there. So no screenshots from me. But if I did post a screenshot, you'd see the Screenshot Captor icon! :)

I can't post a new pic of the taskbar from the other pc, as it currently isn't working and I am stuck on the old P1, but it didn't change that much since those screenshots I posted of it here back in October. (just maybe got a bit crazier on the left side and the addition of DC Search deskbar on the bottom right)

---------------

I have to keep everything under control on the P1 because I only have 64mb of ram.

The taskbar notification area is at the top (not the bottom), and just like always, it autohides:

Oh, great! Just when my eyes had stopped bleeding!  :P
App, I'm surprised nobody on DC has managed to convert you! :)

running.jpg (autohide active)
(Top-Bottom L-R):
DShutdown, Internet whatchamacallit (can never manage to hide it! ), Comodo
WinOrganizer, Task Killer, Internet Download Manager
ClipX, Ultramon, AutoHotKey

Utorrent (M.I.A, but pops up when my bandwidth usage dips to a certain level)

OK, kartal, you winz the thread. Your taskbar is making my head spin. app's taskbar is doing the same, but at least she is hiding it ;D. And I see f0dder likes Evangelion ;)

The taskbar area (new Windows style pending™). Wordzilla, say hi to the audience ;D

Screenshot - 15_03_2008 , 17_59_05.pngMy Taskbar Notification Area Competition

Usually, only the 7 last icons are those running at all times, the rest appear from time to time (that's the beauty of FARR + lean software + somewhat powerful computer :D)

From left to right: Screenshot Captor, µTorrent, Miranda IM, Rainlendar, AM-Notebook, Locate32, KeePass, foobar2000, Ethernet Port #2, Ethernet Port #1, Find and Run Robot, Windows Defender, avast! Antivirus.

Mine looks like Nosh's, 3 high & 3 wide (I like two rows of taskbar buttons), but instead of Autohide, I use PSTray Factory to hide the other 30 icons, 13 of which are AutoHotkey processes.

At 3x3, when an extra icon becomes active, say for a notification, it's very obvious that the  system tray area has gone to 4 wide - it catches my eye.

Here is mine:
task.bmp

From left to right:
Altbinz (newsgroup downloader)
FirstClass (groupware for my job)
Windows update notification (I need to install a patch for WMP9)
Find and Run Robot (do I need to explain this one?)
Volume (standard built in XP)
Safely remove USB drive (standard built in XP)
Task Manager Pro (from AnVir - better than Process Explorer IMO)
OneNote 2007 (a double click lets be quickly insert a note)
NOD32 (best AV program around IMO)
Jetico v2 (best FW program around IMO, but not for the faint at heart or people who hate popup warnings)
Bluetooth manager
FDISR (Instant system recovery and multiple "snapshots" of windows installations accessible with just a reboot of the computer)

I will have more soon, but this install of XP is just 3 days old, so I haven't installed everything yet.

That is true. But that does not mean I do not use donation coder software :) Process tamer and screenshot captor are my favorites. Normally process tamer runs whole time, but for some resaon I was testing process lasso at that moment :)

I'm just kidding around anyway.. someone needs to make a super tiny tray utility with a picture of cody that does nothing but say "chirp" when you click on it, whose only purpose is to pass this requirement :)

Here ya go... the bit that everyone can see:

Taskbar Notification exposed.png

pretty standard fair  :-[ fare here:

Notezilla
WinPatrol
Archivarius
Safely remove hardware (default Windows XP)
AC
Default volume level
PS Tray Factory

Here's what's "hidden" by PS Tray Factory - no explanations needed:

Taskbar Notification hidden.png

EDIT: perhaps not so self-explanatory. The bottom three icons are for:

Bitdefender Antivirus 2008
CachemanXP
AnVir Task Manager Pro

Something like this, mouser?

c.bmp

Just right click on it for options:

cmenu.bmp

Very quick and dirty in autohotkey after looking at a couple of Skrommel's apps to see how to make a menu.

Darwin, thanks for the "network magic" tip. I was looking for a network manager I may get it.

I've been busy installing apps and getting everything squared away since going back to XP, so I've added a few more icons since my last post.

Here is my current tray:

tray.png

From left to right:

DirectFolders
My Life Organized
Direct Access
Active Sync
HP printer utility
Adobe Photo Downloader
First Defense-ISR
Bluetooth
Jetico Firewall v2
NOD32
One Note 2007
Find and Run Robot
USB
Volume control
Altiris SVS
AnVir Task Manager Pro
AltBinz (newsgroup leecher)
OneAlert (calendar and reminders from the maker of My Life Organized)

I am currently trying out PS Tray Factory, so most of those icons are hidden.  I have altbinz and AnVir Task Manager Pro visible at all times as the tray icon animates to give useful information.
