It's true.  Really.  And possibly the coolest video I've ever seen.

Brilliant but it isn't as definitive as http://www.youtube.c.../watch?v=Cy5KjaAS7nY

Anyone any idea how to download YouTube videos - download helper doesn't seem to work any more (you just get audio)?

There was a Python script (YouTube.py) that worked nicely until YouTube changed the URL scheme. I now use VideoGet, which usually gets the job done: http://nuclear-coffe...com/php/products.php ($19.95, I bought it discounted at Bits do Jour two months ago)

I'm with Reneagde - wow! The Rolf Harris version is incredible - he owns STH! I just wish that the whole performance was in that clip - probably available if I looked hard enough. The faux Beatles one is really well done as well...

Darwin look two posts up - that is the whole Rolf version, though a rather stayed studio production.

Here is it again: http://vids.myspace....amp;videoid=17583122

To be fair, Rolf did say that when someone suggested he should release the song as a single he had never even heard of it (and didn't listen to LZ before going to the studio). He became something of a student cult figure at the time and appeared at numerous rock festivals. He's taken a lot of stick but I think he is a really genuine guy (now in his seventies) who has never taken himself seriously and has amused generation of bewildered UK children with his whaky art work and wobble-board.

Personally I think LZ should have invited him as a guest star at the reunion concert ;)

some background on this -

it was originally performed on an Australian TV show called The Money or The Gun <see here http://en.wikipedia....The_Money_or_the_Gun>

It was a comedy show in the early to mid 90's and each episode closed with a band or performer doing a cover of Stairway To Heaven (some were more memorable than others...)

There was a video available featuring 25 performances though I believe it may be out of 'print' (?)

mmm, google is your friend (HA!)

see here - http://www.freedownloadmanager.org

and FWIW, i've tried quite a few different D/L managers and this one works for me - enough options, not intrusive/invasive.  As a bonus, you can create a portable version once you've installed it (strange concept, but once you've done it you can uninstall it and use the portable version if you so desire...)

Ah thanks, Carol - I missed that link the first time you posted it.

I'm amazed that the video was shot when Rolf was in his 60's... Thought it was an older perfromance than that. Incredible, none the less.

There was a TV show here in Australia, with a guy called Andrew Denton who was inspired by Rolf Harris and his version of Stairway to Heaven, each week he would have a different person in to do their versions of it, some spoken some sung.  He compiled a CD of it all eventually, about 50 different versions of Stairway to Heaven (edit--more than 25 but i cant find a pic or exact number and i'm too lazy today to look any harder).  Now that is overkill, lol

Is this the Cd to which you speak?  (http://wc01.allmusic...;sql=10:0cftxqrhldhe)

Thanks for posting Rolf's version Carol, that dude is a trip, I love it the more I have thought about it.

DownloadHelper (Firefox Extension) works really well and is a simple click to get a menu and you click the right one to download it. Works on sites other than YouTube too.

The main one I use is Veoh TV - which is also a media player and organiser (download link at the botoom of the page). It adds a toolbar to IE and Firefox so that most Flash Video sites just require a single mouse click to initiate the download. The Veoh website also has loads of videos and channels (a bit like YouTube). Veoh just sits in your system tray (though you can disable that behaviour). Not the best designed software but it does server a useful function efficiently.

There are a couple of websites that will let you paste the YouTube link into frame and that will then dowload the video to your computer. But can I find them now...? Non!

Google is my friend:

http://www.techcrunc...m/get-youtube-movie/
http://keepvid.com/
http://www.savevideodownload.com/

I've used the first two and they work (granted, this was about 6 weeks ago...). Can't comment on the third...

Ooh! The Gilligan's Island version... Which ties in nicely with Ralf's comment above  :o

Nice find though, Carol. Pat Boone, Dolly Parton, Frank Zappa, the Nashville Super Pickers (love that name - keep seeing guys in Stetsons with their fingers jammed up their noses or plucking at their... nevermind) - quite the assortment of styles to choose from. This'll keep me busy for a while.
