Back to the topic: After a few days using the
XsX Alphablended Cursors I realized that I'm
missing the shadow under the cursors. The "Enable pointer shadow" option does nothing, I don't know why. Any idea?
However, I managed to add the shadows to the individual cursor files and at least for me they are visually more distinctive on the screen:

The hardest part was to find an application capable of editing or keeping the cursor hot spot.
IcoFX, which is otherwise an excellent application, lacks this feature, but
RealWorld Cursor Editor can do this, and much more, and it's freeware.
