Question about feature....
« on: April 13, 2005, 06:04 AM »
Hello,

I havent installed DesktopCoral just yet but I was wondering if it can be used to split the screen into different parts and have applications expand into the parts.  For example: I have four different windows that I use at half the height of the screen (so I can see any two applications at a time).  Can I use DesktopCoral to allow me to set a divder at half screen that these windows will maximise to?  Also, could I set individual program settings so that other windows could be maximised to full screen?  If you have any questions about what I mean, let me know and I can provide a screenshot... I think!   Thanks,

Kevin

i know exactly what you mean -
unforuntately DesktopCoral cannot do this.

the desktop area not used by DesktopCoral will behave like your normal desktop, ie you can expand stuff inside it.
but within DesktopCoral region, if you moved an app there and maximized it, it would jump out of the coral and into the main desktop region.

it's probably possible to do what you want by writing using some low-level virtual monitor driver, which would be a very fun idea, but outside of scope of this small project for me.

may i suggest you look into buying a dual monitor setup for your computer.  I use one and it does exactly what you are describing, but with two desktops side by side, one on each monitor, and i could never go back to a single monitor.  it truely is the only way to live.

Heh heh, not a problem!  Unfortunately this situation occurs at work.... where buying a second 21" monitor is not really an option!  But, I'll check out DesktopCoral to see if it has any other features I can find useful.   Thanks!

DesktopCoral will be of interest to very few people.
Unless you have a real purpose for this program it's not likely to be useful.

ozzy requested it, maybe he will tell us a little bit about why its useful in his case (assuming of course that this does what he wanted).

ps. kifitting - i think it's time you chose an avatar for your forum profile.

Just to be on the safe side, YES, I have it installed, and finaly YES I will come with lots of feedback on this tool.

But I am caught up at work today and tomorrow, but Saturday is my computerday at home (My girlfriend will be working;) so I look forward to check it out real good.

I think its really cool of Mouser to make this program (and all the rest he has), and has donated (not much, but it was what i had this time;)

Keep it up, Mouser!

btw: first bug was found by my gf today. The prafs-window displays the wron opac-setting when reopening it, resulting that it isnt opac when you press "ok".

one thing it will do is, if the opacity is <5 it will bump it to 5 when opening options dialog, just so you can see it.
i could get rid of this if people think it is confusing.

You can try Virtual Display Manager.  Just google it. I think it does exactly what you are trying to accomplish.

nice find rl2e!

See also this thread: https://www.donation...ex.php?topic=14053.0 which mentions SplitView:
http://www.splitview...iew-Personal-Edition

I'd love to see someone do a mini-review of SplitView and Virtual Display Manager.
