This has been done so many times...
Even Microsoft gave it a shot with Quickstart ;)

I've never been a "Quickstart" kind of guy, I rather use a couple of minutes everytime I install something changing the Start-program-bar so that the newly installed program gets in the right place and delete all the other icons installed (like how to's, faq, links, and such...)

Start-bar can actually be your Quickstarter if you keep it clean..  :)

How about ONE page with just beta's on it?
And don't thread it, just have the latest betas there?

Then send us an email with a message "updated: CarrolThingy."

The hardest thing about this page is to find the thread where the news are...

But thats just me I guess  :-[

Out of cuirosity... Why do you run your desktop at 120dpi?
I use lots of different dpi's when making catalouges for work, but I dont set another dpi on the desktop...

Just wondering...

Tried that one, JeffK
Difficult to set up for newbies.
And do you know how long program X needs before the next one starts? I sure didn't.

It doesnt really do what I would like such a program to do. The key word here is AUTOMATIC.
I shouldnt need to set a spesial time setting everytime something worked its way to my startup...

This program is more a sceduler, not a tool to make your startup easier IMHO...

Mouser: the only problem I have seen (it was years ago though) was that virus-programs wanted to be started first...

Yeah, I know there is a program doing something like this, but as you said, its OLD, and nobody remember it ;)

The main difference though, is the ability to have it go on to the next program when the first program isnt using to my prosess / disk anymore...

Using a flatscreen, I cant go beoynd 1280x1024.
There is no problems using your site for me.

I'm a 30 year old man from Norway. (No, there is NOT white icebears jogging around in the streets, and Norway is NOT a part of sweden.)
I live together with my girlfriend, who is a nurce, its nice to have that in mind getting older:)

So, what do I do...
I work in a company called "Logistix". We own a chain of stores in norway that sell boat-stuff to all kind of people and other stores.

What I do there...
Ok, most of the times I am a buyer of goods (I buy all the goods that the stores needs) I don't know what this is called in english, but I guess there is a fine name for it :)
The rest of my time at work is divided on many parts: I make a 178pages catalouge for the stores, it is printet in 100.000 copies, and is sent out to all of our customers. I'm not alone doing this of course, but I am the guy who put it all together in Quark Express (make the design, making the pages work and look nice at the same time).
I also run the computers at work. I am not reallt an IT-guy, I am more a IT-manager,making things work and when soemthings go to he##.. I'm the guy they call.
I also make all the ads the company needs in its marketing, and I also make the web-pages we have work. www.maritim.no is one of them, its only useful if you know norwegian, and well.. need boat-stuff ;)

What do I do in my spare time?
Making the most of it.. As Mouser know, I am a busy guy.. trying to be with my gf as much as possible, we have a house that alwasy needs something (yes, i hate paint, its offisial).
I love computers (thank god, my gf loves them too), and use much time using it. I make little games in VB sometimes, www.acino.org is where you can find the resent ones. I am also learning php, trying to make a norwegian questuion-game that my gf will be running.
I dont play games much, but CivIII and Superpower2 is getting the minutes I have.
I love new software, tinker tinker... Dopus, Samurize, Firefox, Thunderbird and now Mousers software is what I love when I am in tinker-mode.

Being an old amiga-user I always look for good programmers that love to well.. tinker... I think I have found a new home here.. :)

Living Room / Graphix
« on: April 16, 2005, 05:55 AM »
I make this post in the members only-section because it is rude to say what I am about to say to everybody (or as least I think so ;)

Mouser, your programs is exelent, your programs is made with care and that good!

BUT the gui-icons look like windows 95 gui's...
The Gui-setup is ok and usefull, but the Ok / Help  buttons has icons on them.. A green jerky icon is right beside looking really old and not nice at all. The same with the ? and other icons used in your programs.

I dont use themes in win XP, so I am not sure how it looks in other themes, but when I see the green  awfull icons I remember my days when windows95 was the greatest thing around...

I feel your programs would look more proffesional without the jerky grafix!
(It would be nice to see good grafix, but use your time on coding).

I showed some friends your programs and the where afraid the didnt really work good with xp sp2 beacuse it looked like it was made for 98. ... (ok, some of my computerfriends suck, but nevertheless ;)

#4:
must the window be the same length as the screen?
(see the screencapture I have in the other post, could Coral just be made to cover that part?)
Why?
When maximizing its great the way it works, but when a window shows up over the tray (from winamp, or gaim) it is also moved to the left because Coral is docking the hole screen side.

How is the language-settings doing?
Are you moving towards multilangual, or has it low priority?

It would scare some people off.

But if the software is good and usefull enough more people would Donate.
Just look at me, when i found out that the programs was really worth something, I came runnign with a little money...  :)

I have another idea. Part of its done before, but hten again its different (and in my mind better  :-[ )

A startup-program.

(silence)

NO, not a "what-have-I-in-my-startupfolder-do-I-need-to-delete-it" kind of program.

A program that would take hold of ALL programs that is started and:
1: start them up in order (preferably the user could change what is started first).
2: start the program, wait until the program isnt using much prosesstime, then start the next program on the list.
3: Show in a centered window what is being started
4: Exit without making a fuzz about it :)

I know there is a program that start things in your startup-folder, but it doesnt wait for the next, it isnt showing anything and it uses more resources starting them up that is clearly nessesary.

The all important: WHY?

Have you listened to you harddrive when windows starts all the programs at once? It hurts man, it really hurts...
On my belowed Amiga there was a program doing exactly this. It made the startup-prosess quicker (a,ll the programs dont need to rip all dll's and fight for resources and prosessortime at the same time) and it made the harddrive smile and the user would see what programs got started (and wonder why THAT program is getting started and fix it;)

DesktopCoral / Suggestions
« on: April 16, 2005, 05:20 AM »
Here are my few cents:

1:
Some programs / tasks should be able to use the whole screen, and not bee affected by DesktopCoral. Maybe make a list like in Prosess Tamer?

2:
The opacity is really confusing.  I would suggest to remove the ability to have a background-option in DesktopCoral, and rather have a "switch" ON/OFF for making it invisible.

3:
Option of having a taskbaricon or not. it would be nce to just open main exe again to get the prefs-window. But this isnt half as important to me as 1 & 2.

DesktopCoral / Bugs?
« on: April 16, 2005, 05:12 AM »
Bugs?

1:
I have put this program into my startupfolder to make the most of it.
But sometimes it starts up with a different Opacity setting, showing itself.
I can't reprosduse this everytime, but its sure is bug-looking  ;)

2:
When you open the settings-window it sets the opacity to 5% or so.
But the slider isn't always agreeing, it sometimes moves WAY up, but the opacity is nearly 0 (it looks almost gone, but the slider says 8% or so...)

3:
When do it save the options? My gf sat it to make her top (no, the screen-top... guys...) me free of windows, she had to go into the settingswindow, change opacity and pressed ok. Here computer crashed right after that, and when it started up again, it was where she sat it... Not the same opacitylevel either, but I guess thats a bug #1 foult...

Thats all I found, its a good program nevertheless
the behavior of setting where it should be seems a littel buggy. It CAN be me being silly, but I feel its bugging me... ;)

DesktopCoral / Usefullness
« on: April 16, 2005, 05:01 AM »
Why is this software usefull?

Let me show you a scenario, tell you why and maybe give you some hints of usefull software allong the way.

Why?
Ever had a program the you whould like to monitor, it didnt take up much space one the desktop, but everytime you used the "Maximize"-button in another program it got hidden? Well, this is a program that can help.

I use a program called Samurize (www.samurize.com), but it could just a easily be coolmon (www.coolmon.org). It could even be mIRC (the part where you see if people says hi), or Gaim (http://gaim.sourceforge.net , a multi-protocol instant messaging including msn).

They use a part of the desktop to show you usefull information. My Samurize-setup shows things like tasks, what my winamp hits towards my ears, time and such. I wanna se it, even if I use Firefox (www.getfirefox.com , a good and free browser) and hit the maximize button.

This is what DesktopCoral do. It makes a "hidden" window along one of the sides of your desktop and keeps maximized windows away. Here is a screenshot of my setup (look on the right side of the screen)

So, if I start a program that maximize itself i don't loose contact with my information (Now, why would this information be so important? Well.. I like to see how much memory programs use, and samurize shows it to me, what tasks are started? Samurize show that too...  ;)

Thank you Mouser, this program is making my days a little easier and more userfriendy :)
