Any FastStone fans out there?
« on: July 03, 2007, 10:37 PM »
In one of the threads, several members spoke highly of FastStone Image Viewer. therefore i was inclined to try it out and so far it seems to be worth the while but for a minor error message. the message appears whenever i key-in the path manually on the address bar and start viewing..

so, any ideas on how to avoid this? i've emailed the developers some time ago but there's no response so far.. here's the screenshot..

Works for folders when I do it. Individual files I get this:

...and I have been using it for a while and not encountered ANY problems.

If you do give up on it, you might give XnView a look. It is another freeware program with similar functionality.

My 3.3 Beta 2 version is like Nighted's: It will do folders but not files.

Good point Curt! I didn't think to mention that I am using v3.2.

It seems that 3.3 Beta 2 will search for a folder when it should be searching for a file; if one removes the filename there is no problem. lanux128 (and/or others); was/is the problem in version 3.2 with both folders and files, or files alone?

For the original question, I'm a bit more of an ALSee fan. :)

But don't think that I'm not just a tad bias. :)

if i just paste or key-in the folder path (without the filename), it works fine but when i'm browsing the images, then only this error pops-up - "The parameter is incorrect" (see my screenshot on top). of course, if filename is included, then the error that Nighted mentioned appears.. :)

I am not as biased as you, but I too prefer the ALTools selections.  It is that "evil" ALZip that got me stuck on ALTools line of products...Nice work.

i also tried ALZip for some time and while it was impressive, i couldn't tear away from WinRAR - more of a habit rather partisanism.. :)

Yes, well, I never had that handicap.  ;D

I almost always make self-extracting files (SFX) and/or zip for compatibility since work has a site license for WinZip, but I never liked it much.  Don't really know why, just found SFX much easier to work with than WinZip's self-extractor.  The fact that ALZip extracts all these formats and can create several of them is just a huge bonus for me.  For me, the SFX creation and the zip format are the deal breakers, and when ALZip can do that much more cheaply then WinRAR or WinZip, I am sold.  Now if only I could convince the company of that  ;)

I am just curious when or even if, it will support 7z creation.  Renegade, do you have any insight to that?
