N.A.N.Y. 2019 / Re: micro Tool contribution that list all connected Drives
« Last post by mouser on June 13, 2018, 02:31 AM »
Hi KodeZwerg -- I'm happy to see you are going to contribute to NANY event.

But you've posted in the NANY 2018 section -- but the NANY 2018 event is over.  What you want to do is wait until NANY 2019, which will probably be opened up around september or so.

Not an uncommon mistake, it can be confusing how we call these things.  Bottom line, NANY 2019 is our next event and you have a few months to wait until its open.

Automatic Screenshotter is something I'd like to add more features to and work on more, so please do feel free to make feature requests and continue posting bug reports

It looks like you did it the way you are supposed to.
Let me test myself and report.
KeePass is exactly the kind of application you might want to block from CHS, so obviously it's important to make sure this feature works properly.

How strange..  A few preliminary comments -- there is no reason you shouldn't be able to use Automatic Screenshotter along with other screenshot tools, including snipping tool or my own Screenshot Captor.

What version of Automatic Screenshotter do you have installed?  The latest is v1.08.01.

Personally I find it more efficient to disable the post-capture dialog (that's where you choose save as, etc.), and just let SC stay minimized in tray after each capture -- and then I double click the tray to open the main window when I want to actually do something with my captures.

Welcome to the forum, Helmut

One oddity that sometimes happens (and seems to happen in my programs on some hard to predict occasions), is that a window like the about box gets hidden behind some other window, or even the main window.  And this can make the program appear as if it is hung, but really it's just that the window that wants focus is hidden somewhere.  Sometimes this can be solved by using alt+tab or just choosing the show the program window, etc.

2232
Hmm that's strange.. Can you share what you added to the Ignore these applications list?

Dog lets owner back in when she locks herself out:
2235
You are looking in the right-click system tray menu.  I'm talking about the main menu on the full main window.
2236
It is under the "Edit" menu, about half way down.  It is a new experimental feature -- basically you select an approximate area and it tries to shrink the selection region to fit that object inside the selection.
2237
Here's what's happening:

When you do an active window capture, SC is trying to figure out the partial transparency behind the rounded corners.  TO do this, it actually does something a bit involved, it paints the background of the window in black then white and compares them and uses the difference to remove the partial transparency around the borders outside the window.

However, when you try this on a child (modal only?) window, the parent prevents this trick from working.

So you have 3 options in such a case:
1. Move the child off the parent background.  This will make it work.
2. Turn off the option to try to grab partial window backgound transparency in the Windows Capture options dialog.
3. Live with the background captured in the image or crop it yourself afterwards.  You might try the new advanced option under the Edit menu called "Auto Adjust Selection to Fit" as an alternative way of shrinking the outside crop to the window borders.

Living Room / Re: How to move forward with an idea?
« Last post by mouser on June 10, 2018, 01:18 PM »
In my opinion, a good healthy first step is to realize you are almost certainly not going to be able to successfully commercialize it or be able to do anything with it that makes you any money, fame, etc.
That's just the reality of the world -- especially our current age, where information and ideas are so easy to distribute and explain.
The reality is that even when one has a truly great idea, there are most likely dozens or hundreds of people who have also had it, long before you, and are in a better position (monetarily, connection wise, etc.) to bring it to fruition.

That's not to say I am suggesting you not pursue it.  Only that you do so eyes open to the reality of the situation, and placing less of a hope that your idea alone is going to be worth much if anything.  If it's important to you I think you will have to embrace the idea of taking a much bigger role in actually bringing your idea to life and taking it from idea to implementation and marketing and promotion.  The idea is almost certainly not worth anything, but a person who can recognize a good idea and follow through with the hard work to bring it to life is.

DesktopCoral / Re: Any chance to get a complete quicklaunch optional feature?

Just be prepared, there is a learning curve to LBC, since it does a few things oddly.  But hopefully it's worth the hassle figuring it out.  Let me know (in the LBC section of forum) if you have questions!

Have you tried my Launchbar Commander program?  It is essentially the desktop-reservation functions of Desktop Coral but is a full fledged and very flexible launcher..  I don't think Desktop Coral has any feature that LBC doesn't have in it..

See the "Print Options" tab in preferences, there you can choose whether the default page orientation is Portrait, Landscape, or Auto (which automatically determines orientation based on dimensions of the image):

Screenshot Captor / Re: Rectangular caprture not working on main screen
« Last post by mouser on June 07, 2018, 03:19 AM »
That is an interesting clue.. It's almost like your video display is not handling overlays correctly on your main monitor.. I wonder if it could be an unusual video driver..  Have you updated your video drivers to the latest versions?

There is no reason wireless shouldn't work, but i know there was some issue with some wireless cards and winpcap driver -- was it intel wireless cards?
The winpcap people are the ones who may know about a workaround.

We have a section to discuss small coding projects and requests here:
https://www.donation...index.php?board=31.0

And we also have a very fun even at the end of each year called NANY (New Apps for the New Year) where we invite coders to release a new small freeware program and send all participants a free custom DonationCoder coffee mug.  You can see past years here: https://www.donation...pps-for-the-new-year

Due the fact that i hobbycode something similar ATM but far not that good, i know how hard it is to capture something correct, especially layered or overlay window is hard to grab for beginners like me, so both thumbs up with a huge smile since all works out of the box!

Just capturing a part of the screen is exceedingly easy to code.  It's some of the supporting code that can get quite complex -- like dealing with transparency around borders and round corners, doing the selection rectangle user interface stuff, stitching together a scrolling capture, etc.

Again, thank you for the comments and welcome to the site.  We are a friendly bunch so don't hesitate to post more questions or suggestions.

Welcome KodeZwerg!

Thank you for the kind words -- your english was perfect.

One little wish i have, or i did not found proper option yet, i would like to turn off the Explorer Window that open after saving finished, how to?

This only happens when you do a Save As.  You can disable this from happening by going to the miscellaneous tweaks page and changing this:

Hi Hemantarya,

That article looks like it is on topic with this thread, but you need to state your affiliation with the site when you post something like that -- and say whether you have financial interests in the site, wrote the article, work for the site, are an affiliate, etc.

I mean I just don't understand how their are profits to be made with these deals and acquisitions and businesses.  Github is a fantastic service/site it just makes my head hurt to try to think how the valuations and business models work.  And I must admit, it makes me a little queasy to even think about such matters, so I try not to.
