Find And Run Robot / Re: how do I search imdb? using the built in alias
« on: September 08, 2011, 06:54 AM »
No, I had been using it in the past but switched it off. Here is my screen-shot
screen shot
SOLVED, Thanks for the tip on Google Plus as even though I had disabled the plugin the aliases were still set! so I had to uncheck them too. Now working fine.

27
I type imdb and then a word to search so eg
imdb dirty dozen
but nothing shows, do I have to press some key after typing the word imdb? and then type a search term?

28
wow what a fantastic and thoroughly thought out plugin!!
erm, I spoke too soon, LOL
I watched the video but it's not working for me. There must be something I have to set up that I haven't done?
I just installed the plugin but when I type fspell necessary nothing gets shown apart from "not found click for web search"
Fspell is installed though as when i type just fspell it shows some text about it.
I am using
FARR 2.98.01

29
the link to Tutorial (should be a good introduction.)

is dead

I am just trying out Double Commander (free) the russian author is making it like totalcommander and it can use most of the plugins, What is of note is that it can be used on Lynx too.  It is very configurable and seems fast.

31
Still love Total commander and Xyplorer
I love the catalogue feature in Xyplorer see here for example
xyplorer catalog feature

32
is there a  password manager plugin?  I use FARR for going to web sites but some require a password and it would be great if FARR could also bring up a window with you passwords in for your favourite sites.

33
i think it would be better if the script would start up everything as I dont want it running in the background previously as it uses 18mb

"Alternatively, go to your Aliases tab, select "Core-Search.alias" and uncheck the built in "music" alias."

That did it, thanks!  I hadn't even noticed that core-search music alias.  Hey you didnt mention that in the video you did  ;)   Was it a test, oops I failed then :'(

Find And Run Robot / help me launch a music file!!!
« on: May 20, 2011, 10:10 AM »
ok so I set up in Options/search folders   a mymusic folder and in the bottom box the modifier word music. I did this after watching mousers youtube video - so it's all you fault mouser ;D
so now to do a search
I type in +music under
(this is to find a file called under.mp3)
well it shows as the first item in the results but how do I launch it? So far I have tried these
hit return - but the display results then just change to http:\\www.allmusic.com etc.
arrow down key to highlight the first entry and hit return   gets the same www.allmusic.com
double clicking on the entry - same www.all music.com
how do I launch the mp3file?

I should mention that double clicking the file in an explorer window does play it no problem.

Dont get me wrong FARR is still the best but I came across this (not being developed any more) TypeAndRun

I do prefer its interface - SO simple!  but what I really love is the way it autocompletes for you, say you start typing C:\pr   it fills in the rest really fast. I know FARR does it too but you have to press tab every now and then.

37
Thanks, i think it would make more sense for me to start from scratch with my own simple winbutton.ini and add more to it as I figure it out -  as the one that comes with it is too confusing for me to figure out.
Edit, getting a long much better starting from scratch. I am able to set up buttons and call variables.
I just found the amount of files a bit confusing and in the Readme/settings section where it said "This is a sample [Settings] section of the.ini file"  I wondered which .ini file as there are a few.

38
Hmm, the screenshots look good but unfortunately I am far too dumb to configure it :-[   could a simple example be put in the read me of - say configuring button top left to open notepad? or something simple

39
Yes it works for me now, this evening. It was in the afternoon when I tried before 3 or 4 times. The download was slower and got slower and s l o w  e r  util it was 3kb/s and just didn't manage the last part at all.
Anyway downloading fine now, got it. :)
however I would suggest a mirror link, dare I suggest megaupload or the like?

40
tried downloading it form the DcMembers server but both times it was corrupt.

41
The default  pause key    I dont like pressing more than one key.

42
Feature request.
A simple inbuilt timer (or a very simple plugin)
the only one I can find is part of a compicated pack Cz..   and it crashes FARR

Yes mouser I downloaded the version from the homepage yesterday.  ON the CZpack thread it did say to download the latest BETA but I dont know where to go to find  the beta versions. Is the version from the homepage a beta?

Find And Run Robot / Re: waiting for a better reason to update
« on: April 08, 2011, 02:23 AM »
LOL, yes I know I am megabyte paranoid. I just worry about all those little apps all running and ganging together to bring down my computer - they're all plotting against me! >:(    But yes I would run a newer app if I could see in what way it was offering more but I cant see it. My older (but not ancient) version seems to do everything the new version does. I am however checking from time to time and if a super plugin comes out that  A: works and B: wont work with my older version. Then I will change for good.
Update, the hamnotes plugin wasnt working as well with my version so have now moved into 2011 !!

hmm ok you got me curious. I looked at the latest plugins and thought the CZ pack looked interseting especially the timer plugin.
so I downloaded the latest FARR (2.98.1.0) from the home page. As I expected it does use more memory. I adjusted the settings to the same that I had for my older version.
old ver. on startup  2.512 mb
new ver                 4.264 mb
after doing the same search
old ver                7mb
new ver             10.4mb
after the search is finished and the prog is again in the background
old ver goes down to only  744kb !
new ver goes down to       1.766 (one mb 766kb)
-------------------------
now I then installed the CZ pack to try with the new version
I set a timer  but when the time was up and it tried to display the alarm it crashed FARR
so far it was the only new plugin that i thought i would need a newer version of FARR to try and it doesnt work.

I downloaded the latest FARR from the homepage (ver. 2.98.1.0)
and the CSV package and the Fsubsript from the link in first post.
I wanted to try the CSV packege mostly for the Timer plugin but when I set my first timer. it seemed fine but when the timer tried to post a message on the screen (when the time was up)  it crashed FARR.

ok thanks for that info I didnt realize most were not really installed.
I guess the 2 main reasons why I havent upgraded, even though I am a paying user. Is
1)  I dont want to mess with something that is working and my current version uses so little memory in the background, less than 1mb! I would be worried that a newer version with maybe more inbuilt features would use a lot more ram.

2)  I havent seen anything added lately that made me feel, I really wanted to upgrade.

How is it possible in this universe that someone else was insane enough to independently name another program "Drag and Drop Robot":

http://doc.trolltech...w-dragdroprobot.html
 (see attachment in previous post)
Surely this is a sign that the world is coming to an end.
LOL,  well why dont you collaborate with the author and integrate them together - that would be awesome.
It's actually that robot graphic that got my attention enough to make me want to try it.
Pretty cool app.  I also watched the video. Useful video my only criticism of it would be that you spend a bit too long on rar'ing and zipping  and maybe you could have shown more on encoding mp3 or converting wav to mp3 and also converting full size jpg to smaller thumbails for the web -perhaps using irfanview or another app that accepts commands.

Never got the hang of it, all those arguments \q \a  etc to write a simple note   just confusing for a dumbass like me.
Also sticky notes is what i really  like, and the one with keybreeze is awesome, with its timers etc.
