Thanks for this.
The author/developer appears to be a one-man-do-it-all. And he shares a lot of his stuff.

Ah, yes I get it now.  I had to disable some toolbars because of space. The only shortcoming of the toolbar is how to manage its size.  Using small icons would mean just that... small icons with large spacing between each icon. and the only way to resize it is to drag it upwards, which means sacrificing work space.

I honestly can't remember 7Stacks, though I tried it before and it's similar to Standalone Stacks. I preferred Standalone Stacks because it can be put inside Rocketdock.
For my own strict set of shortcuts, I use Hedgehog's Jumplist Launcher, which is sufficient since my main launcher is FARR.

It's possible to create a toolbar that only shows one icon regardless of how many items it actually contains, plus the arrows next to it.
It's also possible to to put a folder into a toolbar that will give you a tree view and therefore access to, any subfolders.
I'm not sure I got it right. What do you mean by a toolbar with just one icon?
But I'm aware that you can assign any folder as a toolbar in Windows 7's Superbar.

Thank you rsatrioadi:D
I still don't know what I'll do with that large free GB, but the fact that I have them is just... happiness. lol

I think Firefox Sync allows you to choose your own server to sync your data to.
Check out their own help page.

It so happened that I did not save my recovery key and I had to reinstall Firefox to scrub away those preferences set up by add-ons that I uninstalled. But I recovered my account just fine when I logged in to Firefox Sync account page.

You can also run multiple instances of Firefox Portable.

Based on my experience, you can't run Firefox and Portable Firefox at the same time. As I understand it, the PortableApps.com platform fools the Windows OS into thinking that the portable apps you're running is installed. Once you closed the portable program, the PortableApps platform will do its job to transfer the temp files that the program used back into the folder together with the main folder of your portable program. I can't remember what exactly happened when I ran Firefox and Portable Firefox at the same time, but I can tell you that its behavior was quirky.

General Software Discussion / Copy (a new Dropbox-like service)
« on: May 30, 2013, 10:24 AM »
DISCLAIMER: I am in no way affiliated with Copy. Let's just put it this way: I am excited to discover something new that no one's talking about (yet). And I also want an extra space coz I have no shame, so please read on.  :P

Hi DC people,
This is a new web service I stumbled upon to two weeks ago. It's similar to Dropbox, Google Drive, SkyDrive. It's available for free but also has a paid subscription. I am shamelessly promoting recommending this because it generously allots 15GB of space to free users.  :D

If you want to sign up, please use this link: Copy Referral Form
You and I will both receive an additional 5GB of free space if you signed up via my referral link.
Thanks!  :D

This image which I use on my Firefox Speed Dials is hosted in Copy :)

hi nite_monkey,

The solution that worked for me with regards to Standalone Stacks to recognize shortcuts of 64-bit programs is to use symbolic links. I wrote a tutorial on how to easily create symbolic links on this page:

I do like Bins, but it's not free.

Find And Run Robot / Re: Need help with FARR appearance tweaks

hi mouser,

Thanks! Anyway, I'm finding it weird that the extension column's bg color did not change, as can be seen in the screenshot. Is this normal?

Sidenote:
I discovered your other app. Screen Captor. It looks promising so I'm trying it out right now. I noticed that it has some extra selection for colors. That's nice :)

Anyway, I hope someone could help me with VCL Builder.

Feature request:
Use single left-click to toggle Hide/Show Quick Capture Bar.  :)

General Software Discussion / Re: 2013 Version: Browser Wars
« on: May 29, 2013, 02:47 PM »
I was using Chrome until I can no longer tolerate its inability to render fonts properly. So I switched back to Firefox. I had to install 50-ish extensions and scripts to make it adaptable to my multi-tasking workflow and I'm surprised that it no longer lags as when I left it in v4. In Chrome, my PC would've been a parading snail with that number of extensions. But Chrome remains as my backup browser. I also have both of Firefox's and Chrome's portable versions with the settings synced (I enabled FF Sync and Google Sync but I don't have a mobile phone or tablet that would benefit from those, but it's good that it's there for me to use once I have a mobile phone).

To my mind, anti-virus software is totally useless - it's a safety blanket that doesn't work, that gives a false sense of security.

I read raymond.cc's review.  It was comprehensive.  I appreciate the amount of effort he put forth to create it.  But, in the long run, it's basically useless.  You never know how adequate your security system is until it fails and you know that it failed.

Here's the problem: not every computer user is as smart as you.
The point of an AV software is to block what was already known, and to update its database to include what's recently been discovered.
Here's an analogy: You build a gate around your house. You don't like how it blocks your house but it's a necessity. It gives you the feeling that you're enclosed but it's there to protect you from trespassers. A day will come that a thief [your "circumventor"] will disgrace your home. But the gate at least provided a challenge, and it kept out any potential wrongdoers [the standard AV definition database].

Here's a similar thing: the issue with regards to Internet usage/privacy/trackers, well they're new. Some programs and services offer to block them, but there will always be something that will know what you do no matter what. It's not fail-safe, but it gives you a fighting chance (this also applies to walls and lines of ancient wars that you mentioned  :)).

Sidenote:
Others suggest to use a security sandbox (read: not Sandboxie). Sometimes they're very useful, but not ideal if you rarely, if not at all, go online.

Find And Run Robot / Need help with FARR appearance tweaks
« on: May 28, 2013, 03:45 PM »
First thing:
I learned so much from this board so I hope that whatever I ask has a solution. I think this is my first time posting. I was hesitant to ask here at first because it's kinda intimidating, aside from the fact that mouser (thank you, btw) isn't a big fan of custom skinning. But then again, why not. So here goes.

First thing and a half:
FARR had been living in my hard disk unused for a long time since at the time Launchy is workable.
I like Launchy because: Hello, eye candy. And coming from a launch-via-dock culture (i.e. Rocketdock), appearance is a supplement that's no longer just an option but a reward to users (Yes, that's an emphasis  ;D).
I don't like Launchy anymore because: It's 2013 and the latest release was two Windows OSes ago. And well, it seemed to be not optimized to newer OSes and the fact that indexing i supposed to speed things up, why the heck is Launchy always lagging? Not to mention that the occasional updating of index affects my workflow to the point that I have to spend 10 minutes smoking so my PC wouldn't throw a tantrum if I continue using it (Yes, I'm a multi-tasker who abuse my RAM  ;))
So now I switched to FARR. And with slenderFARR skin, everything is operable. But because my eyes just can't take in too much whiteness, I also tried to create my own skin (see screenshots below), a "skill" I attribute to the resources I found here.

Question no. 1 has something to do with VCL Skin Builder:
http://i230.photobucket.com/albums/ee83/ajfudge14/screenshot%20workarounds/FARR/Bylineskn_3.png

1) What is HeaderControl? Coz I don't see anything change when I tested changing it with a pure neon-green image.

Question 2 still regarding VCL Skin Builder:
http://i230.photobucket.com/albums/ee83/ajfudge14/screenshot%20workarounds/FARR/Bylineskn_2.png

2) How do I change the appearance of that thing labeled "Toolbar" and "Button2"?

Finally, Question 3:
http://i230.photobucket.com/albums/ee83/ajfudge14/screenshot%20workarounds/FARR/FARR2.png
http://i230.photobucket.com/albums/ee83/ajfudge14/screenshot%20workarounds/FARR/FARR.png

3)Since the searchbar and result box is not affected by the skin, how do I tweak its appearance? Yes, I did find it in the Options, but how do I choose colors other than what's listed in the dropdown selection? Can I used an image to make it as background?

Thank you to anyone who'll help. :)

Finished Programs / Re: DONE: Icon Menu Launcher
« on: February 18, 2012, 01:26 PM »
QTTabBar is a Windows Explorer enhancer, but more than just adding tabs for a better folders management, it also integrates a lot of useful features like what was described in the first post (upon mouse-hover it not only previews the contents of a folder but also acts as a "mini-explorer" because it also travels deeper within subfolders. instant shortcut). There is little lag to no lag when I use this, except only when I have too many tabs open (is 20 too many?  :D) and I guess its quickness also depends on what the contents of folders (i find that video folders are rather slow). the only limitation is that  it doen't show files, only folders. and the hovering effect is only applicable to icons/folders where QTTabBar is present (meaning, no desktop support). but it's possible if you open the desktop folder in explorer (then again, why would you open your desktop folder in explorer?)
