I found this utility. It is free and powerful. It is doing exactly what I needed.

Thanks! I played with File Punter but it is lacking a few specifics that I am looking for.

Here are the files in the directory Angel

10/18/2021  11:41 AM           d1060-01.png
10/18/2021  11:41 AM           d1060-01.svg
10/18/2021  11:41 AM           d1060-02.png
10/18/2021  11:41 AM           d1060-02.svg
10/18/2021  11:41 AM           d1060-03.png
10/18/2021  11:41 AM           d1060-03.svg
10/18/2021  11:41 AM           d1060-04.png
10/18/2021  11:41 AM           d1060-04.svg
10/18/2021  11:41 AM           d1060-05.png
10/18/2021  11:41 AM           d1060-05.svg
10/18/2021  11:41 AM           d1060.ai
10/18/2021  11:41 AM           d1060.dxf
10/18/2021  11:41 AM           d1060.eps
10/18/2021  11:41 AM           d1060.pdf

I need to copy the file d1060-01.png to a new directory and rename it angel.png after the directory that it was found in.

Each directory has a *-01.png file that is a picture of what the directory contains. I want to copy them into a separate directory and create a catalog of what the directories contain.

I hope this clarifies what I am looking for.

I thought I would post here before going to coding snacks.

I purchased a bunch of files that are used to cut out shapes. Unfortunately they do not have a catalog of the 184 directories and what are contained therein! The files have numbers and do not represent what they are.
You can see what I am talking about here; layered 3d svg files

The program needs to look for a specific file using wildcards and then copy the directory name and file to a specified directory.

Example; The file string I am looking for is *-01.png which can be found in sub-directory Christmas Trees. I would like to copy the file, rename it to the sub-directory name and place it in a specified directory. The result is c:\christmas ornaments catalog\Christmas Trees.png

I am sure there is a program already out there that can do this simple task. Thanks!

You could try totalcommander (www.ghisler.com)

Thanks for the tip! Will give it a try.

If there is a lone .DXF file in the directory (not in a zip) would you want it moved to that directory also?  Or only if it's in a zip file?

The lone files too!  :)

Thanks for taking this on!

@rjbull Unfortunately it is not just the extension, it is the contents of the compressed folder.

@wraith808 Being the lazy type, everything goes into a download directory. I would like to sort the download directory and put the files where they should be according to what they are used for.
Hope this helps explain what I'm looking for.

Thank you all for your comments

@skwire, you are correct. None of the file sorter programs have the ability to look inside compressed files. The best they do is to decompress them according to filtered criteria.

This point needs clarification about what 'file' is being referred to for copying/moving, the one in the archive or the archive itself.
I think the latter due the earlier mention of 'sorted according to content'.

ie. The archive is kept intact and copied/moved to it's final destination according to its contents.

You are correct 4wd, I would like to move the entire compressed file according to it's content. In this case, it would be a DXF, OBJ, STL, or IMAGE ie SVG.

As always for me anyway, please let me know if this has been done before or available elsewhere.

So my name is Larry and I am a file hoarder!

I deal with a lot of different file types for my assorted hobbies. I also have a lot of files contained in compressed files that need to be sorted according to content.

I have files downloaded from Thingiverse for my 3D printer, CO2 laser and CNC which contain different file types. I have to open the compressed files and see what they contain. It would be easier to just open a program and search a directory to sort out the files.

What I am looking for;

Be able to input a folder destination (create one if not done), scan for files with a specific extension in/out of a compressed folder, and/or scan for specific directories in a compressed folder and then move/copy files in target directory.

Of course being able to input multiples would be nice but not necessary.

Thanks!

I apologize for the late response. I hit the post button too quickly so you did not see the rest of the post!  :'(

As you can see, there has been a big leap in getting the export information into other formats. I believe the issue of trying to preserve and move information will only increase as new and old services come and go, a good way to manipulate the data will be needed.

Thought I'd posted here, but apparently not!  I released the NANY for Mass JSON Viewer.

First I want to thank wraith808 for the json viewer. I was able to get a better idea of how the export was formatted and the program was able to handle the size of the file.

There has been a very active group programming a G+ exporter and now enables exports to blogger and WordPress formats. If you have a large G+ following and posts, you will have to pay for license that allows for a large amount of post exports. Here is more info;

Update to how to export your G+ Site and what to do with the data.

The newest version of Google+ Exporter is now available with blogger and WordPress export options.

Here is what it looks like on blogger which is also a Google (Alphabet) property.

https://everythingla...dotcom.blogspot.com/

Here it is on WordPress

Examples of what other exports look like;

You can find the latest version of Google+ Exporter here;

You should request it as JSON instead of HTML.

I have JSON files too. Now what?  :)

I had to update my post. Looking for something that would work, I came across the review below of one of DC greats! It works perfectly (of course!) but would love to be able to have a webpage do the same.

I apologize if this has been discussed anywhere on the forum but I did not turn up anything during a search.

Google+ is shutting down in four months (April 2019). They offer a service known as Takeaway that will download your G+ data but not viewable in a very convenient way.
In the G+ universe, the posts are shown and accessible on one webpage. When downloaded, each post is it's own html page. It would be nice if there was a way to view all the posts without having to open each one individually. Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated by myself and the G+ community.

You can always try some of the online courses that are actually free and some have great forums for help.

MIT has one http://ocw.mit.edu/c...s/intro-programming/

www.codecademy.com

This one is for younger people which might help out with understanding the basics  http://code.org/learn

As for basic, there is a program called Liberty Basic while not free is a good learning program http://www.libertybasic.com/

Thanks for all the suggestions. SED looks great and powerful but I will have to get more acquainted with the usage. After searching for more information on SED, I came across this program Replace Text v2.2 from ecobyte software. It can be found here http://www.ecobyte.com/replacetext/ It also happens to be free.

It does exactly what I need and is very fast.

etsmellydog , why did  you open a new thread ?

instead continue in your first one  > https://www.donation....msg377969#msg377969

And I thought I was loosing my mind! I had posted originally from work but when I checked the forum, I could not find the post. I even did a search of my username to see what I had posted and to see if I had posted in another forum section but never turned up the OP. I did this both logged in and not logged in to see if there was another issue. I would welcome the moderator combining the two if possible.

Thanks AbteriX for finding my lost post!

I work with CNC machines that uses gcode for programming vector coordinates and machine function. One program does not output the code in the proper format so I have to manually add spaces, change letters for machine function ect. I would like to do this with a batch type function. I have used Notepad ++ put have not been able to figure out how to do so with it. I am open to all suggestions and programs. Thanks

Quick example, this text;

X00.00Y00.00
Z0.05

Would look like this after edit;

X00.00 Y00.00
S100 M3

The code could be from a few hundred lines to thousands of lines and it sure gets tedious to manually change.

I work with CNC equipment that uses g-code to control the motion. It is a simple text file with machine specific codes and vector positioning. I use a program that outputs the code in a not so generic form and I also need to change some of the codes for use with a laser. I need to add spaces, replace characters ect and would like to do so with the least amount of manual repetition. I have used Notepad ++ but have not figured out how to accomplish this. Any ideas or programs to use would be great. Thanks!

General Software Discussion / Re: Beware of download sites
« on: February 05, 2015, 11:47 AM »
I had some fun with this awhile ago. I found a program called Reboot Restore RX which will reset a windows machine back to a set baseline. I installed a virtual XP machine without any virus software. I then went trolling installing everything that popped up on downloaded programs and websites. I would click yes to every offer. I could bring the system to a crawl within a few minutes. The browser would become unusable in the first few downloads. I certainly learned a lot in a small amount of time.

I have seen this around the net and wonder if anyone here has come across this issue.

From an article on PCWorld;

"To save time, some third-party Windows desktop developers used a shorthand to check the version name (not number) of Windows they were installing their app to. Instead of coding apps to check for Windows 95 or Windows 98, developers coded instructions to check for "Windows 9."

How are you people installing it? The 64-bit USA ISO just has errors in VirtualBox when I try to install it.

I had problems too so ended up using VMware.

So far it seems to be the same as Win8 without the hassle of bypassing the Metro screen.

maybe Skwire's Files 2 Folder will help you?

http://skwire.dcmemb...?page=files-2-folder

That is it! I knew I had seen it here somewhere but could not find it. I did try a search but of course did not use the magic words!

Thanks!
