VoodooShield
have always been quite generous with their basic, free for personal use version.
Just takes a bit of time to get acquainted with it to block any dubious app.

O%O ShutUP has been my fav to limit the unwanted stuff Windows 10 does on my laptop.

Last, but not least...
ProcessLasso (lifetime license available) - to control app processes.

General Software Discussion / Re: What Android Apps Do You Use?

After watching a tech video, switched back from a try with DuckDuckGo's similar and now using regularly RethinkDNS

This video about "Best Ad-Blocker Apps" from HowToMen is the one that helped me decide.

And while i like Firefox, it is so much slower (for me) than Vivaldi.
Huge fan of url box at bottom option along with reader mode (Firefox outperforms here any other AFAIK).
But Vivaldi speed over Firefox is tops!

@MilesAhead - just dawned on me.

If you open your Twitter page and another site to the right, you can tile vertically.
Thus have a larger view of what's going on Twitter as you surf to the right.

Just a thought.

After re-installing Vivaldi many a times, can attest that it's sync feature is excellent at remembering passwords (not so with Firefox) and re-instating extensions and more.

Also, with regards to computers, recall purchasing refurbished desktops (nowhere enormous as they used to be) with Win 7 and after about 7 years now, still working full speed. So much faster than Win 10! But buying any electronic stuff today is hard decision. Much like buying a new car. Even if you have the money, you're overwhelmed with so many options!!

@MilesAhead - glad you got it!

Although i still have a penchant for Firefox, Vivaldi is always nearby.
Brave is good too.
If video issues popup, usually one of these three will resolve the problem.

Stumbled on this site today:

Well, that sounds alot like court law stuff to me.

At least  now i know who to run to for help if they ever come after me for something!  :)

Never liked law semester in high school.

Come to think of it, never liked high school much either!

Does someone recall reading in the fine print somewhere, Proton Mail explicitly mention that unless the Swiss gov.t or their security service formally asks for this info. that they would never share anything to compromise our privacy?

13
@Steven - you said that right !

Casually visiting there today, and they have a poll to know if we would like to have a new forum!

Good news indeed!  :-*

Imagine if they had a few extra volunteers, then they could put up a forum.

It's a pretty decent start and the new looks are very good!

Around March 2021, Google AdSense canceled their advertisement service for Gizmo’s Freeware for unexplained reasons. With that income breaking away, the cost for running the site could not be covered anymore. The site itself presented several technical challenges too, that could not be resolved in the existing environment. With a heavy heart, the management team had to announce the shut down of the site by mid of July 2021.

The site was taken down and a farewell page was posted instead. Many comments were made on that page, expressing how sad the shut down was and asking whether there was any way to keep the site alive.

Encouraged by these messages, the management team decided to regroup and come up with a new concept that will keep Gizmo’s legacy alive but that also marks a fresh start: Gizmo’s Best.

It is now managed by George “Sundance”, Jojo, Glyn “Midnight Cowboy” and Rhiannon. The four of them were part of Gizmo’s management team for many years.

Gizmo’s Best is all new and yet, continues with the best of Gizmo’s Freeware. A new site has been built on modern architecture bringing back popular content from Gizmo’s Freeware but also adding new stuff to serve our community.

Best regards,
Your Gizmo’s Best Team

@Deozaan - you were and are still in the know!

Think without user incentive, there will little to help IPFS to really take off.

Wasn't there a browser in the 90's that gave you free internet time if you allowed them to show you ads?

Sounds a bit like what Brave is doing with its BAT incentive.

Think it wouldn't be much of a problem to host somebodies data, as long as you and "they" can never know what's inside.
That, plus a BAT tip of sorts for the extra bandwidth.

Sorry, just babbling i guess.

Although the situation is not quite the same, James Corbett who was recently "thanked" by GooTube has decided to backup all his work on an IPFS "service".

https://www.corbettr...rick-slopey-on-ipfs/

Not quite sure yet on how this all works but IPFS is sure making the news!
Brave browser seems to be pretty strong on this.

It sounds like a peer to peer thing to me, but if it is reliable and secure... that is the question!

General Software Discussion / Re: Earning More with Cryptocurrency
« on: August 01, 2021, 09:01 AM »
Listened to one of McAfee's last interviews yesterday and found him really pitiful.  :(
For a guy with so much wealth and so little thought of helping the less fortunate...
At least, he didn't mention any people or charitable entities and deeds he did or would have liked to have done.
Just a dead brain by drugs...
https://www.youtube....m/watch?v=KGh8UV8TDq

But on the crypto side of things, his mentioning of Monero might be worth looking into.

Think Gizmo's is also short on voluntary manpower... a priceless price tag.

@4wd - huge thank you for your enduring patience!  :)

Turns out to also be a Vivaldi bug in need of some fixin'.

Not satisfied with not being able to get Presearch to work with Vivaldi... decided to finally take my chance and posted issue over there.

Turns out, one person had same issue as me.
Worked fine with other browsers except Vivaldi.

So, final response came in with a modified JS:
javascript:q=window.getSelection().toString();if(!q)q=prompt("Search%20terms");if(q!=null)location="https://engine.presearch.org/search?q="+q+"+site:"+location.hostname;

And it works fine now with Vivaldi!    :-*

Think i might start studying DuckDuckGo's ways of searching as it is a cross-browser option.

Ghacks just tickled my curiosity:

2.9.2218.49 here.

The odd thing is.
Tried on Brave browser with both Google and Presearch and neither worked.
Then went over to M$ Edge and both went well.  :(
Btw, both Brave and M$ Edge already have a functioning version of the "Google" script.
I'm just stymied about this incoherence.

@4wd - thanks again, you have been more than patient!!

First try was with Vivaldi (still doesn't work after third verification).

Just tested with Firefox and your script works just fine there.  :)

Wonder why initial Google script works with Vivaldi but not yours?
