Thanx for the info and the system that is place is generous and better than fair in my opinion.

Made me laugh when I saw Mac got 5.8% of 5
Highest percentage is 40-50 year old? interesting :)

For sure here and elsewhere have heard good things about JKDefrag, time to give it a try I guess.

As far as your points go I am not going to claim you are wrong, but barring Diskeeper I have used the other two tools on numerous pcs with vastly different configs and usage (for example mine is full of downloads, some others barely anything downloaded except Firefox and couple of IMs and so on)

12GB of RAM? wish I could go for that.

I don't know, I never saw any noticeable benefit from defraging, either using Windows' own or paging files PageDefrag or a few years back on my old machine when I owned a legal copy of Diskeeper

General Software Discussion / Re: What is the new desktop?
« on: April 10, 2009, 03:06 PM »
Information organized on a good (enough for your liking or requirements) laptop. I can never be organized using a device that fits in one hand, nor on a 24" monitor with a tower. Happy medium will always work for me no matter what the new technology and latest gadget is.

Does anybody know how the above mentioned Viewer2 opens folder or multiple ones for that matter? I tried it and I have to open an image then right click and cycle through the files in the same folder.

As a possible solution you could use xneat windows manager and middle click on their title bar to hide specific apps

EDIT: If you mean the tray icon, I don't believe xneat does that

I like to play [...]soccer.

QUIT. NOW. Playing soccer kills the little part of your brain that helps you code, and IT NEVER REGENERATES!
You have been warned.

No wonder the little I knew has gone  ;D

InvisionFree is a sort of similar to Forumer but haven't used either because when possible I try to avoid free hosting only because I am just not sure no matter how good previous experiences may have been.
If it was just hosting I have extra bandwidth and space with a good host that I am willing to provide for free for good sites but I won't go further and spam.

The more I read this thread the more I want to try Linkman, thanx to all. For years I wanted better bookmark management, FF3's tagging and storing went a long way but Linkman seems very good compared to the numerous bookmark managers I have tried over the years.

General Software Discussion / Re: Make Firefox 3 load faster
« on: April 01, 2009, 02:53 PM »

Whoa!! That's some heavy tabbing.  What I'm still trying to find out is why it's written in stone that the back button has to reload the page.  I don't fathom what the cache is there for if you can't reload stuff you just downloaded 3 seconds ago when you hit the back button.  Very strange design.

That debate or question has been asked on mozillazine and other related places for years, going back to the mozilla days. Never understood it.

Surprise a few members by making them mods for the day  ;D

Not since Win98, mind you I skipped ME straight to the mighty XP (watch it take its revenge now that I have called it mighty  :P )

Just for the record my experience is close to cyberdiva, 12 add-ons and a similar computer. And FF is easily the most sluggish program on it and I have lots of programs that I download to play around with and test. Keep my pc as tuned as I can turning off unneeded stuff and deleting startups, etc. so other things while not great considering the age of my system are still good.

2072
Thanx and congrats to all, deserved :)

I knew I should have included Politics forum in my suggestions when filling the survey......just kidding  :P

Well put mouser :)

2074
Have you looked at Open Source Web Design as an option?

2075
I have not used it but BootVis might be helpful.
I know of and have usedStartup Delayer but that may only help in finding culprits, not necessarily give you a benchmark or time for each application
