WNS is windows notification service, not being able to go to it via browser, whether directly, archived or otherwise, doesn't necessarily make it malicious.

FWIW DoogiePIM has 'Noteboard' which is close to OneNote, however there is no OneNote sync or mobile version

Living Room / Re: Hotmail hates non-Hotmail: is there a cure?
« on: September 23, 2019, 08:49 PM »
I have had yahoo's own messages - I mean their own announcements not other yahoo user emails! - go to my yahoo spam. A (very) few times same has happened with gmail and hotmail. Email is never 100%, will never be, even with the best up to date and secure settings. Another a bit common example of this is when services miss obvious spam and it lands in your inbox or kind of opposite when twitter notifications land in spam for example. I would NOT recommend trying to fix server settings unless the recipeints are comfortable or are not inconvenienced dealing with the next time it fails. Slack groups and such are far better communication method.

If Hotmail supports filters for incoming mail that should work better than marking anything 'not spam'

"Click: Go to parent folder" is done only via an addon? How minimal is the base install?  :tellme:

PIMs wise, DoogiePIM has email too, very good in my experience. But as far as emails go the feature list doesn't match dedicated email clients.

Very true  ;D

My links are all over the place, have Netscape, Opera bookmarks as html files going back 15 years plus. For a while I had all of them imported into LinkCollector (now defunct, was at www.portablebookmarkmanager.com)

Mini-Reviews by Members / Re: GS-Base Mini-Review

FWIW
Something Excel/Access failed (row limit) and even the likes of Gnumeric choked on GS-Base opened in a matter of seconds. In this case it is a ~5.5 million rows list of movies, a dataset provided by IMDB.

It is similar to the way you can see (past) flights on google calendar, ie sourced from confirmation emails in gmail. A security risk? unlikely. Privacy invasion? yes but when using any service the likelihood is there, it's 2019 we surely know this.
Not sure if Microsoft is less guilty just cause there isn't a visible page listing things separately.

100% people's fault, not the politicians and those who they appoint. On paper at least it is a blessing in disguise that pretty much 75%+ of current politicians worldwide DIDNT hide their true faces before getting elected, that percentage was much lower in previous generations. US in particular everybody knew how voting for each candidate would affect every thing from tech policy to environment policy etc. etc.

Hopefully I am not causing a basement (sorry mouser et al  :-[ ) thread but Net Neutrality is very much a political issue, denying this is almost as bad as letting Net Neutrality die.

Encryption keys are stored only on the Nextcloud server, eliminating exposure of your data to third-party storage providers. The encryption app does not protect your data if your Nextcloud server is compromised, and it does not prevent Nextcloud administrators from reading user’s files. This would require client-side encryption, which this app does not provide. If your Nextcloud server is not connected to any external storage services then it is better to use other encryption tools, such as file-level or whole-disk encryption.

Note also that SSL terminates at or before Apache on the Nextcloud server, and all files will exist in an unencrypted state between the SSL connection termination and the Nextcloud code that encrypts and decrypts files. This is also potentially exploitable by anyone with administrator access to your server. Read How Nextcloud uses encryption to protect your data for more information.

DC Gamer Club / Stadia Google

Not a gamer but curious to read what you guys at DC think about this, perhaps an interesting topic :)

Onstage at GDC,  Google  CEO Sundar Pichai announced the company’s latest big initiative, taking on the entire gaming industry with a live-streaming service called Stadia that will be launching this year.

The service will let gamers leave their hefty GPUs and expensive systems behind. Pichai says that the service can be used on devices with a Chrome browser and an internet connection. To Google that means Stadia will launch on desktops, laptops, TVs, tablets and phones. The service will work across platforms, so you won’t just be competing with other Stadia users.

I knew there was a reason everybody could keep using it even after trial period expired  :P

Note: I have used 7-zip in the past and currently Peazip, good enough imo

Strange decisions for sure, for Canada I always check the bands and if compatible consider buying a non region phone (not from Amazon or ebay though  :P). My current phone, Moto G5 Plus, was never released in Canada but works here.

I assume you meant market availability otherwise G7 and G7 plus will have versions with dual SIM

Amazon and ebay are risky and some sellers are the same on both sites and put the product up for sale in both places, at least that's definitely the case in North America.
Thinking about condition/quality and location of product (ebay listing outright lying) it is best to avoid expensive tech from them. I have had no problem buying cheap tech (like hdmi cable) and other stuff like books but phones or such nope.

DC Website Help and Extras / Re: Is DC attacked again?
« on: February 08, 2019, 09:37 PM »
Hacking, DDOS etc is not confined to "big" sites, important sites and it has never been. It is about games and anybody with a tool showing off and trying to gain a reputation in the dark corners. My site, a very very minuscule part of the web with zero thing or data of interest, gets attacked by those trying to login ...is just one example to prove the point

Sorting files inside archives or 'before' they are extracted would be very very useful to me, may be I have never requested such a thing but I would be very interested too
