N.A.N.Y. 2019 / Re: NANY 2019 - Windows App - Process Watcher
« on: November 12, 2018, 06:31 AM »
Can you explain what feature you were interested in?
I was planning a process lister,
which will show the process names, time etc.,
as they are loaded by the os,
in a small non-focus window.

So that I can see, which process are loading in background without my knowledge.

Anand

Should I go ahead and make one as I envisioned for NANY 2019 ?

Ahhhh... Looks like after marriage you can read minds too.

I was planning a process lister which will show the process names as they are loaded by the os in a small non focus window. So that I can see which process are loading in background without my knowledge.

Now you just read my mind and made it. There goes my NANY 2019.
Well I will have to re-start again.

Anyway, thanks a lot for the app. It is definitely useful to me :)

Living Room / Re: Hating on AVG antivirus/firewall (internet security)
« on: November 02, 2018, 06:00 AM »
Well after using AVG Free for more than 10 years and always vouching for its benefits, I finally uninstalled it few months ago.

I ignored the intrusive behavior, taking away window focus, random popup message etc. as it is a free product. But when it started locking my exe and dll (which I developed), I had enough.

I rely on Windows Defender now.

But, paraphrasing the author: what's so bad about being ostracized by free-riders after all? Sure, before the internet became widespread, that would be a hard hit, but these days, one can easily find good online communities with good people, so the "punishment" is a lot less severe in some fronts.
Yes. Spread of free or cheap internet and many online activities has helped us geeks who were 'unsocial' few years ago to become 'social' again. In fact nothing changed for us but the 'others' thinking towards us :)

Living Room / Strange !!
« on: September 11, 2018, 07:20 AM »
If I come back late at home, my wife shouts "WHERE were you ?".

Google knows where was I and the GMap show me in time line.
Facebook, Twitter etc. knows where was I.
Even people sitting in China knows were was I.

My wife does not know ! Strange !!

Well some of my users are using Overlap Wallpaper as logo on their user's monitor screen.

See if it helps in your requirement.

Living Room / Re: WhatsApp Backups in Google Drive - Curious

Maybe. But my curious point is why hiding the most important text for 'non-encryption' in the the webpage, when drumming 'encryption' as the most important feature at the top.

Anyway, it is just for legality. They always have our data for all of their needs.

Can't be sure of it. But we were always ensured of end-to-end encryption, whatsapp showed text to this effect prominently. So, I think this is new changes they have agreed to.

Giving user the carrot, to get the data.

Remember Gmail always prefers and request you to archive and not to delete !

While we are on the subject of G preferring ads in apps, this one takes the cake, I think.
Nothing in particular to any app or developer, so I have tried to remove identity.

Living Room / WhatsApp Backups in Google Drive - Curious
« on: August 23, 2018, 11:28 AM »
I got email that, "Due to a new agreement between WhatsApp and Google, WhatsApp backups will no longer count against Google Drive storage quota."

Good news for many. I tried to look between lines why G is so generous. Found below text in the middle of webpage at "Backing up to Google Drive" https://faq.whatsapp...19/?category=5245251

"Important: Media and messages you back up aren't protected by WhatsApp end-to-end encryption while in Google Drive."

Though, I feel, it should have been the first line at top and highlighted. So now Facebook (the parent) and Google both can use the user data without any legal obligation.

Anand

dmd7978, let me explain. When you are giving some charity, do not try to judge the people lining for it.
If you are putting something in public domain, the all 'public' has access to it, including rich and poor.

Anyway, I suggest make zip file of your code, make some screen shots, write some description and put it here in DC Forum. Follow Skrommel. Take advise of Mouser.

Anand

Hi Nicholas,

highend01 already gave to solution. Still I have attached two batch files I use to "delete all but latest 6 zip files in all subdirectories", i.e. instead of size it checks date. Since they are batch files, you may modify them as per your requirement.

Anand

Interestingly enough, we had someone pop into the 24hr donationcoder chat channel yesterday who made a brief announcement that they had been "stress testing" the server and that there was no maliciousness directly explicitly at us, and were about to stop in 30 minutes, and then they left the channel.

Ahh.. so my hunch was right. Thank GOD good sense prevailed.

Anand
