Delete an Alias
« on: July 27, 2007, 07:43 AM »
How do I delete an alias? I created a test alias to try something out and now FARR will not let me delete it. It says it is read-only. No big deal as I can uncheck it, but I am curious.  The alias is in MyAliases.alias and the file is not read only.

Well.. If the alias is in "myaliases.alias", it should NOT be read-only and you should be able to delete the entry by right-clicking it and selecting "delete".

If you can't, please check farr's directory -> AliasGroups -> Installed, and check if myalias.alias is there. If it is, please move it to AliasGroups -> MyCustom.

All the aliases under the "installed" directory are read-only, maybe that one ended up there by error :)

No, they are not in the "Installed" directory. I'm using Vista and FARR (or Vista) creates directories all over the place. My alias files are in:
C:\Users\Ed\AppData\Roaming\DonationCoder\FindAndRunRobot\AliasGroups\MyCustom

I also have FARR related directories in:
C:\program files
C:\Users\Ed\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\ProgramData\DonationCoder\DcUpdater\RedirectFiles
C:\Users\Ed\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files\FindAndRunRobot\Plugins
C:\ProgramData\DonationCoder\DcUpdater\RedirectFiles

It's a real mess. But, the alias files in MyCustom are not readonly.

Once you create an alias, FARR grows fond of it and wont let you delete it.  :P

Actually, it sure sounds like a bug -- i'll try to find what might be causing it to think the alias is read-only.  In the meantime, just open the myaliases.alias file in a text editor and delete the offending alias.
