Quicken Kids & Money Software
« on: May 08, 2007, 02:15 PM »
This seems way too expensive to me to justify purchasing (ironic isn't it), but the idea is quite interesting.. Would be nice to see someone here work on some kind of free alternative for young kids to help them learn to save..

Money skills to give your kids a head start
Quicken® Kids & Money is a practical, step-by-step program to help you teach up to four children (ages 5-8) money skills and habits that will last a lifetime. Here are just few of the program highlights:
Monthly Milestones
Step-by-step lessons
Each lesson comes complete with goals and activities to help you teach your child (ages 5-8) money skills. We call these Milestones, which include topics such as:
    * - setting a savings goals
    * - delaying gratification
    * - learning to earn
    * - donanting to charity
    * - see a partial list of lessons
We recognize that life can be busy with little children, so our lessons are flexible. In as little as 20 minutes each week, you can teach your children how to handle money through real-life practice and continual reinforcement of your values. Your children soon begin to use their use their new-found skills and habits every day.

HAHA... although I like the idea... sorta. It is very ironic that they want you to buy the software, for $70 frigging dollars no less.

"Teach your kids how to save money by spending some of yours!"

Here's some more financial advice.

actually they want you to pay $100 a year for it.
i think the first lesson you should teach your kids is:
sit them down in front of the computer and say "look at how companies manage to grab all your money with recurring subscription charges."

Oh goody! It's a subscription!? LOL
I only looked at the page until I saw a "$". Oh I see now:
Regular price for 1 year membership is $99.99; special discount expires March 31, 2007.

Lesson 1: If the sale has already expired but they're still advertising it, the company isn't taking the product seriously and you shouldn't give them your money.
