I use FinePrint a lot at work. It's perfect for printing journal articles with two pages on each sheet of paper (or actually four since I print on both sides of the paper).

One thing I miss in FinePrint: being able to print three (partly overlapping) pages on one sheet of paper! That would be very useful when printing much web content, since the rows are often shorter for articles on the web. Printing such content with the two pages option in FinePrint results in a lot of unneccessary white borders. Since three full pages on one row would not fit on the sheet, FinePrint should add an option to overlap the pages horizontally by some user customizable measure. The user could then tune the overlap setting so that only the white borders, not the actual text, overlap.

Another thing I miss: I'd like an option to get the header tool in FinePrint to behave like the watermark tool. That is, stamp headers onto the page image and not above it. The latter means that the page gets shrunk and moved down a bit even in cases where there's enough white border space on the printed page image to fit the header.

Does anyone know if Clickbook or any other software can do these two things?

It doesn't need to have all the features in these apps, but have similar capabilities...

Fineprint just told me they like the review so much they bump the link for the review right up to the top of their Homepage (News section).

It is indeed a great piece of software.

Unobtrusive, only appears when you most need it and then steps aside when you are done, just like a good personal assistant does.

Truly a Work of Art that does what you want and does not cost you two arms and two legs that most like most work of art but instead saves you money each time you print and makes you wonder, "How did I survive without it ?"

I too use Fineprint all the time (it is set as my default printer). I find it really useful - esp. for web printing to get a proper preview of what is actually going to be churned out and it is simplicity to delete the bits you really don't need. But that only scratches the surface of what you can do. Definitely worth checking out (I paid full price before there was any discount and I am very happy).

By comparison ClickBook is (IMHO) ClunkBook

Ditto as well...

I upgraded because version 6 now lets you rearrange pages. The feature isn't as useful (at least not so far) as I imagined. I'm really waiting for the deleting segments of pages feature mentioned above. So far, I can't say that I can report any compelling reason to upgrade - unless you've got upgradeitis like I do...

I fact, version 5's GUI is better, in my opinion, that the touted updates in version 6. It's cleaner and simpler in the new version but I found the old GUI very intuitive. A lot of the power is now hidden.

PS The removing graphics feature is a step in the right direction. I honestly can't recall if it was available in version 5. If it was, I never saw it!

I'm testdriving FP6 on my scrap computer. The changed GUI and the "remove graphics" options seems to be the largest changes. There's a video here where you can see some of the GUI changes:

The other two videos doesn't seem to be available yet.

I hoped they would have added more features, especially for such a major version change. One more feature that I hope they'll add is a mode with three pages per sheet. As I think I've mentioned before, when printing many PDF text documents, like academic journal articles, placing three pages in three columns could give small but still very readable output, given heavily cropped margins. That would give us six pages per sheet of paper if double side printing is used!
