Website download management program/script

I am looking for a script that will allow me to create different sections for downloads at a website I operate. Ideally, the software will allow me to create pages based on categories, have a thumbnail associated with each download, and provide links to other information about the download. Does anyone know of any scripts or packages to do this?

Are these strictly images or are they various file types?

Various file types will be downloaded from the site but I need the core feature of being able to associate a thumbnail with the download. Any ideas?

I do have some suggestions, but to narrow it down, what software are you using currently for the general website? That will help me best suggest something that melds well with what you already have.

We are going to be swapping to joomla as soon as 1.5 goes gold. Right now, we just have a regular homepage up that we maintain on/off until joomla goes gold.
