Very particular arrangement of Explorer icons....
« on: November 02, 2025, 12:35 AM »
Just curious if anyone else finds that sometimes one has a very particular arrangement of icons in a Windows Explorer window which one would really like to keep arranged in that super special way?

As you likely know, Windows doesn't allow that presently.  Move out of that window, and then back, and, auto rearranged.

Like an elaborate sandcastle built on the beach.  Tide comes in, and out, and no more sandcastle.

Share your thoughts, if you care to.

On the desktop? Sure.
In the tray? Sure.
In Windows Explorer? Nope. Totally different mindset/workflow. I prefer list view, sorted alphanumerically for everything with few exceptions. Such as the Downloads folder sorted by date, or folders containing only (or primarily) images/videos in "large icons" view but still sorted alphanumerically.

sorted alphanumerically

So, if we want a particular order, we need to rename so that the sorting works.

Better to have the ability to use the names we want, and keep the specific arrangement in the Explorer window, positioned anywhere in the window we think best for the purposes we are undertaking.

At the very least, one particular Explorer window (aside from the Desktop).

Windows used to allow this.
