Hi all,

I’m looking for a lightweight, fast, and reliable batch image resizing tool that works well on Windows. My use case involves resizing hundreds of photos for web publishing, and I’d prefer something that:

Supports common formats like JPG, PNG, and BMP

Allows custom width and height settings or percentage scaling

Offers a simple interface without unnecessary bloat

Can process folders recursively would be a plus

I’ve tried some popular tools but found them either too slow or overly complicated.
If anyone has suggestions, I’d love to hear about them!

Thanks in advance!

If still interested, I would say IrfanView.
Start it, hit the 'B' key and you are immediately in the batch convert/resize/etc. section, which support dirs recursions, files lists, and it's all in all very quick and straight-forward.

Nowadays I mostly use FastStone Image Viewer, as it's easy to use and can rename with templates as well as resize, in one pass.  I don't think it does recursion, but the same company's FastStone Photo Resizer appears to, though not tried by me.  Both are free for home users.

Resizing doesn't really get easier than Peter Bone's Resize, an old program that works well, but you might find it too simple for your needs.

Can't get much lighter than ImageMagick, though the interface is a command-line, so that may be off-putting, but once you get the parameters right, it's one and done in record time.  There are so many ways to resize an image, it's pretty ridiculous, and you can do additional operations like cropping, adding borders, etc.  Give it a shot if you're interested, and read the docs, you'll have a much better time.

After that, I'd recommend either Irfanview or XnView:
