Location of .ini and Alias folder in Win 10 and Win 11
« on: December 05, 2021, 08:09 AM »
FARR is awesome!

Win 11 brings up an issue

Location of .ini and Alias folder in Win 10 and Win 11 differ

In Win 10, stored locally %USERPROFILE%\Documents|DonationCoder\FindAndRunRobot

In Win 11, looks like stored in OneDrive

On my Win 10 desktop and laptop, I have different custom aliases since location of some files are on D drive in desktop and C drive in laptop.

Once I have Win 11 installed on all my PCs (desktop and two laptops) this will cause a problem, since aliases will all on OneDrive.

Is there a way to force FARR to look at a local folder for .ini and Custom Aliases?

Or is there a better solution?

I still run FARR in Windows 10 so can't comment about Win 11 folder changes.

One alternative though is to use FARR in portable mode. The latest release is here https://www.donation...ex.php?topic=10505.0
Better safe than sorry: make a backup of your aliases and settings before migrating to portable mode.

If you edit the ConfigDir.ini file in the FARR program files directory you can point it to where you want the data files to be stored.
I'll have to check out this change in windows 11 -- Sounds like I may have to change the default location to be local documents area that onedrive will not alias.
